If you flip me off while driving, enjoy your ticket for distracted driving by the way.

Except it's legal and not only would the case be dropped, you'd have a filed complaint on your record. But we all know you're not actually a gang memb- Err, I mean, officer.

I can give a ticket for "improper hand signal". There are only three authorized hand signals when driving a car; right turn, left turn and stop.

Extemporaneous hand signals might confuse other drivers of your intentions leading to a crash - which is why they are specifically prohibited by law. Too bad it counts as a moving violation with points on the driver's license as well.

But please, keep being so edgy and act like you know more than me, that's fine.

Speaking of chuckles, let's all lol at IonicPaul, who makes friends with bugs to make up for his lack of human contact.

All I wanted was to come in this thread and laugh at the legality of flipping police officers off.

but no things never go like they're planned

Major props to my hommie Sheeef. He made Recon possible for me. Long time recovering emails and passwords. And it was his. lol.

My dad did this to an undercover FHP on the highway as his tail-lights on his trailer didn't work. The FHP gave him a ticket for it; question is, who was more wrong, the FHP for not having working tail-lights, or my dad for flipping the bird?

Lol I don't do that for people anymore. If they want to speed past and be idiots, go right ahead buddy. I'll be passing you up soon enough, waving to you and those puurrty flashing lights you gained.
I don't go more than 10 over the speed limit, the cops in my area are complete tools though and will write you up for going 5 over.
Nothing is wrong with going 5 over though.
What if you're in a parking lot?

Where's your argument now!?

I didn't think that was illegal, more of a common courtesy.

I think it's pretty stupid. If I was a cop and someone flipped the bird to me, I'd still beat the living -blam!- out of them and arrest them.

Did you read the article? That's what the officer's excuse in court was:

Richard Insogna, the officer who stopped Swartz and his wife when they arrived at their destination, claimed he pulled the couple over because he believed Swartz was "trying to get my attention for some reason." The appeals court didn't buy that explanation, ruling that the "nearly universal recognition that this gesture is an insult deprives such an interpretation of reasonableness."

Assault
Battery
False arrest
Malicious prosecution
Official misconduct

Take your pick. You've just opened yourself a criminal charge buffet.

Is malicious prosecution an actual offense? That could be used against any arrest.

Well, here we are. I guess that it was destined to come to this.

IMO, if I put myself in the shoes of either person.

If I am so pissed off that I am giving someone the finger, then I don't care and it doesn't matter how they are dressed or who they think that they are. As long as I am not making threats of physical harm (which IS a crime) a finger gesture is crass, but not dangerous or wrong.

If I am in uniform and a citizen decides to flip me off? Then clearly that is how they choose to communicate their feelings towards me as a person, their opinion of me or what I and my uniform represent. It tells me that they do not have anything helpful or useful to say to me and so I shrug and go about my duties.

If however (as the cop) the person who is giving me the middle finger is a part of my duties, say that I am investigating and they are a witness, or if they are a suspect, then their finger is not going to distract nor discourage me from doing my job. And if my job requires that I speak to, question or otherwise interact with someone whose gestures show their dislike for me? It is still my job to maintain a professional air while I go about my duties in the best manner that I can.

Malicious prosecution is actually a civil offense (my mistake there). You have to prove that you were prosecuted even though the prosecutors knew that you hadn't done anything wrong.

I honestly don't see much of an issue on the subject.

If the gesture is non-dangerous (flipping a finger is not like reaching into your jacket) who cares what gesture some fool makes? Besides, "the finger" is mostly a US creation, the UK has their two finger salute, and so do nearly every other culture.

Excepting Kiwis maybe. They're like their namesake, and haven't been exposed to threats for so long, they've lost any natural instincts or defenses.

A competitive players main goal is to win.
A casuals main goal is to have fun regardless of whether that results in a win or loss.
It has nothing to do with individual skill or knowledge, it has to do with the reason you play.

Everyone seems to hate on cops.

Two movies you should watch: Fight Club and Pineapple Express

"Wait. What do you mean, it's dead?"
"If marijuana is not legal within the next five years I have no faith left in humanity, period. Everyone likes smoking weed. They have for thousands of years. They're not going to stop anytime soon. You know? It makes everything better. Makes food taste better, makes music better. It makes sex feel better for God's sake. It makes -blam!- movies better you know?"

Off topic I know but what's a good website that shows every law for every state? I mean I've checked sites before for just one state only but it always turns out to be a terrible site with little information.

OT: Great. I would've loved to have been able to flip off the last cop that pulled me over seeing how he was a complete -blam!- for no reason.

Good, there is a video of a police officer pulling over an ambulance because he thought the driver flipped him off, while the ambulance was rushing someone to the hospital.

Of course if you give the wrong cop the finger...

You get your lips super-glued together while they let a spider, scorpion, probe thing climb into your navel.

At least they drop you back in your bed when they are done though.
