Well, here we are. I guess that it was destined to come to this.

Good, there is a video of a police officer pulling over an ambulance because he thought the driver flipped him off, while the ambulance was rushing someone to the hospital.

Who was recording?

The dedicated paramedic who was rushing a patient to the hospital shouldn't have had time or attention to spare on either flipping someone off OR recording an event.

The cop should have been focused on their duties.

How'd it make it to tape? Someone obviously had some spare clock-cycles.

It's legal, but do it and the cop will try to find ANY reason to pull you over and give you a ticket.

If you flip me off while driving, enjoy your ticket for distracted driving by the way.

Except it's legal and not only would the case be dropped, you'd have a filed complaint on your record. But we all know you're not actually a gang memb- Err, I mean, officer.

I can give a ticket for "improper hand signal". There are only three authorized hand signals when driving a car; right turn, left turn and stop.

Extemporaneous hand signals might confuse other drivers of your intentions leading to a crash - which is why they are specifically prohibited by law. Too bad it counts as a moving violation with points on the driver's license as well.

But please, keep being so edgy and act like you know more than me, that's fine.

Did you read the article? That's what the officer's excuse in court was:

Richard Insogna, the officer who stopped Swartz and his wife when they arrived at their destination, claimed he pulled the couple over because he believed Swartz was "trying to get my attention for some reason." The appeals court didn't buy that explanation, ruling that the "nearly universal recognition that this gesture is an insult deprives such an interpretation of reasonableness."

Two different things, the officer in the article believed the person was trying to get HIS attention, not other drivers as a signal. If he would of used the explanation given by myself, it might of been different. There are so many different things you can "charge" the person with, it is sort of a catch 22. Some courts will accept it, some won't.

I know you are but what am I?

Why shouldn't you be able to flip off a police officer? I mean, can't you swear at him?

Circle Jerkin' I got my wiener workin'

My dad got arrested and spent a night in jail for flipping off a cop in the 70's.

It's still Disorderly conduct, it's just that they couldnt make a case out of it.

Shakes Magic 8 Ball

I've already had them point guns at me, handcuff me and arrest me. I may as well use my rights too now.

Hey look. Nice of you to join us now. ;p

I honestly don't see much of an issue on the subject.

If the gesture is non-dangerous (flipping a finger is not like reaching into your jacket) who cares what gesture some fool makes? Besides, "the finger" is mostly a US creation, the UK has their two finger salute, and so do nearly every other culture.

Excepting Kiwis maybe. They're like their namesake, and haven't been exposed to threats for so long, they've lost any natural instincts or defenses.
God damnit those two make everyone think we're retarded over here. We do in fact use the finger in NZ, but more often our aggression is expressed through us threatening to smash you in the face
