Subject: Halo 4, Disappointing or Above average? *Kind of Spoilers*

Haters are going to hate.
Praisers are going to praise.

The Bungie Forums are what keeps my mind sharp and my fingers active, between writing my own movie scripts, drawing, and studying industrial design. At the moment I'm working on miniatures for a short movie that I'll hopefully be able to film once I've saved up for a camera... That's me, with the mug, trying to have a conversation with Konoko.

Why not just have Cortana use the light bridge to give Didact a handicap? We see her using the light bridge to hold Didact in place by the wrists, why not have Cortana crush his armor there (so he can't use Force), and dusable his shield? Didact then escapes from Cortana's imprisonment and we have a straight up boss fight. Didact is now on the same level as Chief because Cortana disabled his shields and some weapons.

As for weapons, they are on the middle of a Forerunner ship. It shouldn't be that hard for Chief to find something like a Binary rifle or Scattershot lying around. Those are strong weapons and would be readilly available.

It also seems Didact lacks an Ancilla, or the one he has is inferior to Cortana. Remember when you plugged Cortana into that tower and had to hold off the Crawlers while he made a portal? Cortana says she managed to lock Didact out o the system. She managed to beat Didact's security on his own ship. Earlier, Didact also refers to Cortana as an evolved Ancilla.
Exactly. Imagination ftw!

EDIT: And it is important. Doesn't matter if it's less than a percent of the campaign, it's the last moment of gameplay before one puts down the controller. If that's lackluster, the last impression of the game is lackluster. Why end a game on a low, or in this case meh? Oh yeah, shiny CG...

Rule of thumb when talking about Halo 4's ending: Didact survived.

Posted by: Sandtrap
The three things that bothered me the most were mostly trivial stuff, but it didn't help with my immersion to it.

Every time I fought Elites, I didn't want to fight them. Not because they were now a boring rather repetitive enemy, but because their reasons for re-forming the Covenant were stupid and in my opinion not like them at all. This is the race that fought the prophets to a standstill before they brought out their ace in the hole and then formed the Covenant. They had to have some intelligence to make their own spacecraft right?

That intelligence was rotted after 3000 years of religious dogma being shoved down their throats by, oddly enough, the Prophets. After that long of believing you'll ascend to godhood alongside the Forerunners, it can kinda get to your head.

The Prophets won against the Elites: they won not by military might, but by turning them into obedient cannon fodder.

The general "feel" of a fair amount of the game. I can understand that 343 might change things up appearance wise because this was their first game and they wanted to make it clear that the series was in different hands now. But they overdid it. When I look at all the various aliens and things in the UNSC, it just doesn't say halo to me. No connection whatsoever.

And finally, why orange? I understand that players needed a distinction between the Didact and his forces when compared to normal Forerunner architecture, to distinguish, good forerunner, bad forerunner. But is there any logical reason the Didact would change his colour, his forces colour, and even the Forerunner environment around him and his forces to orange? Again, you have this split, this contrast and clash.

Orange is the color of the Composer, and thereby the color of the composed humans that became Prometheans. Plus there's the simple fact that blue indicates auromated Knights and Orange means they have a leader.

I liked the campaign, probably one of the best ones I played in a long time, but I had to force myself to get immersed into it, which ironically helped drive me away from it.

Who in their right mind would want to fall into a slipspace rupture?

What control did he have over that with cortana holding him so he couldn't move? It isn't like he was just about to kill john like twice. had cortana not been there to save john like she always did he would have been killed.
You misread. I was referring to John dangling over the edge.

What point is there in giving players the choice of climbing up?

It makes sense to give us the choice to plant the grenade ('wait, this is a real live Forerunner, probably the last one in this universe. What if there really is a greater threat out there?') but this is just ridiculous.

I never said the game was crappy I said it was disappointing. QE can work if used at the right time, christ Heavy Rain is one big QE and i loved it. But for them to end the game with a QE felt off and not like Halo. Halo 4 is a good game but it is a poor Halo game. This is all opinion keep in mind.

I don't have the mental capacity to understand the significance of two QTE and or how that effects the game overall to even judge it based off of.

Because a light bridge is not a weapon, she can use the light bridge to make some curvings that would hold the didact for sometime but not build a huge knife from hardlight and chop didact....

As for weapons, how will the chief escape the didact ? The didact is now pissed off and will destroy chief having no back thoughts.

He cant lack an ancilia, every forerunnner had one, didact bieing the most important forerunner of his time could not actually lack an ancilia. cortana is not even the most advanced human AI, i doubt even the most advanced ones are better than a regular forerunner ancilia. As for him saying "evolved Ancilla" its because she is rampanant, AI's are rampanant because they become full of information, they become independant.

The QTE soured the campaign for me not the whole game. Multiplayer took care of that for me. In a nutshell Great campaign let down by few gameplay issues. Multiplayer with a personality disorder and a good be not great replacement for Firefight.I've yet to mess around with forge but i've noticed no Forge World like Maps.

Using a light bridge as an improvised weapon would be more believable than having the Librarian pop out of nowhere and evolve the Chief. If not a weapon directly, hand wave it by saying that Cortana loaded herself into Didact and is hacking his armour.

As for escape, Chief now has no weapon (because the Didact was force choking him earlier) so he runs back to one of the many weapon crates scattered around the place and grabs the biggest gun he sees. Didact breaks free of Cortana's imprisonment and is now coming after Chief, but now we have a Binary rifle to fight with.

You are missing the point. Cortana beat Didact (or his Ancilla) on his own ship in his own computer system. This is not just overcoming him, Cortana is in their system, she should be at a disadvantage yet she still managed to lock him out of the system while she was rampant. The Didact (and his Ancilla, if he had one) were in their home territory. If he should have won anywhere, it should have been there.

"Find where the liar hides, so that I may place my boot between his gums!" - Rtas 'Vadum

It's passable for me. It lacked much of the familiarity of the previous games in terms of things like aesthetics, music and setting. It felt too detached.

A hard ligt expert, that's not often. Sorry, but Cryptum and Primorduim both describe lots and lots of uses for hard light. We haven't come across half of what those things in the games.

The thing is, when 343i still had the game on paper, they could have made pretty much anything possible. If they wanted a boss battle, they had every single means to make it possible, make the story support it. Evidently they either didn't want to or couldn't make it possible, but that has nothing to do with it being impossible for the Chief and the Didact to have a fight at that point in time and in that location. What happened at that point in time and in that location was due to them coming up with prerequisites and abilities for what happened to happen. It is not impossible to twist the story to make a boss battle possible. It is well in the realm of what is possible in the Haloverse. It's not as if Chief was to extinguish a star with his tongue.

As for weapons, how will the chief escape the didact ? The didact is now pissed off and will destroy chief having no back thoughts. And how did the Librerian take him down? He was off-guard. That's where Cortana could come in...

343i wanted a two step QTE, that's what they deemed-- Idk what they deemed it as, but that's what they did, and no one seems to be impressed by it, or even like it. It was their judgement.

grey101, white knight of Halo 4.

If they didn't insult our intelligence by purporting that it was the same Halo we know and love, I'd have less of a problem. But they drone on and on about how classic fans will love the game.

Speaking as a classic fan (I don't speak for all of them, and don't purport to), I was thoroughly alienated by a number of Halo 4's aspects. It's not impossible to make a (good) Halo game with innovation, but it's damned hard, and it's probably not the best for sales, as judged by the incredible amount of changes (especially to multiplayer) to make the game more appealing to your standard gamer.

What's funny is that the campaign is a polar opposite. Unless you've read the books, you've got a convoluted mess of a campaign.

I'd much rather see Halo go away than go through blunder after blunder. I'm done with Halo, and that's a sad, sad thing to say when it's been a part of my life since 2003.

Of course, I'm no religious devotee, so I'll borrow/rent each new game, but I will not be preordering the next Halo game.

I love Halo and video games. I started a business called "70MGame", I setup LAN events, tournaments, and Midnight Launch Events. Check us out in the link below.

I grew up playing Halo CE and have never stopped loving it since. I have one of the biggest Halo collections you will ever see with the crown jewels being life size statues of Master Chief, Kat, and Emile. Im hoping to have the entire Noble Team soon as well as other Halo statues

Halo 4 has blown away my expectations! I only have a few complaints:

1. Far too easy to rank up in Matchmaking
2. No Coop Matchmaking feature
3. Not enough maps

Tom.

I enjoyed Halo 4.

It felt fresh with the new features, but I'm not feeling the multiplayer as much as I felt Halo 2's.

Halo 2 made me want an Xbox, and I spent so many hours playing the multiplayer.

Halo 4's multiplayer is great, just not as good IMO.

Halo 4 was very disapointing!!!!! You also forgot to mention the new ridiculous enemies. Alien dogs (that don't look alien first of all).. shooting machine guns out of their mouths!?!?! and those Knights that teleport while your shooting them!?!?! That does not feel like an authentic Halo game at all!!! Half the time I was running throw random teleporters while cortona was talking about some geberish of the diadact. It was poor campaign quality overall!!! Worst Halo game Ever!!! The multiplaye isn't bad.. but its getting too close to the Call of Duty gameplay mechanics style. I still can't believe how they killed off Cortona!!! WTF O.o and also Master chief's talking did remove me from the game a bit and also reduced the AWESOME super soldier mysterious hero feel too.

Halo is done frome here on out... Unless Bungie actually steps in to make it.. otherwise I agree, I don't want that once great franchise to be destroyed... Halo was the reason to keep my Xbox.. Now its left to the Gears of War franchise.. But they let someone else create the new Gears, so idk..
