All right folks, Namco Bandai is worrying me. They've taken the director from the previous two Souls games off of the team and are saying they want to move the series into a "new and more accessible direction." I already hold the Souls series on a pretty high pedestal. There's not much more room to go up, but there's certainly a very big fall down. I just hope they don't make the game easy.

The Souls series is built on the (sometimes literal) blood, sweat and tears of it's small develop team (now almost doubled in size) and loyal fan base. They'd better keep in mind who was buying their games prior to the shift in power and the series that they're working with. I think I can speak for everyone when I say we don't want "more accessible," if anything we want more difficult :P

Anywho, What do you think about it Flood? Are you excited for Dark Souls 2? What are your thoughts on the "new direction" they're taking with the series?

Hanger one I just shredded with the SMGs until ammo was out and I just threw 'nades like a boss while BRing.

My experience playing Cairo Station on Legendary

The worst mistake they could make is to create a more approachable experience. That's what was great about Dark Souls, it kicked your ass until you got good at it, but allowed friends to lend a fair, helping hand.

Yes, I'm the guy who had the Flood admit to being furries.

Pretty much all your fears have been addressed OP. They aren't going to make the game easier, or separate the multiplayer from the single player. They're just adding a more clear tutorial when you start the game, which is perfectly fine, especially how makeshift the first one was.

And by new features, one of them was dedicated servers so PvP and co op isnt as laggy :D

Will the tutorial be forced, will it be a part of the Campaign or separated? The reason I ask this, is re-playability. If I were to go through the Campaign again, would I be forced to sit through the tutorial again? I hate when games do that; e.g. Darksiders 2 and Twilight Princess.

Awesome. I think that a new tutorial is needed, a cryptic set of instructions is not the best thing. It makes the game harder, but not in a good way.

I think it just goes along with the first area of the game like the first, not a prelude to the actual game like some tutorials do. Not sure if it'll be optional, but probably, and they know people loved the new game plus system, so honestly there probably won't be tutorial scripts and stuff for new game plus and beyond, because it would be pointless.

You might want to read that article correctly, they just changed his position.

From the ashes

I'm reading that Miyazaki will be acting as the supervisor for the game, so I'm still sure we'll get a good game. That said, I still have reservations, as a new direction for a game that appeals to those who specifically want a challenge is worrying.

I'm also reading about multiplayer serves...I don't know in what form of multiplayer we are talking, I just hope the emphasis remains on the single-player experience.

I'm just going to continue reading the details as they are revealed. I'll no doubt get the game, since it's coming to PC off the bat this time. I'm just going to be cautious with what I read from now until launch though.

Ok, I guess I haven't read enough details, lol.

But part of the fun in Dark Souls was having a very vague direction to leave you to your own wit, even in the tutorial levels!

Also, the many paths open to you from the start were awesome and prompted trial and error. From what I understand they're making the game a bit more linear as well which makes me kinda sad. It wont be like a hub-world system like in Demon's Souls, but it will be kinda like how Reach was supposed to be "open world with reigns" This is just how i interpreted the Edge magazine article however, I could be wrong :P

They made him a supervisor, which sounds like a big position, but it really isn't.

Miyazaki is working on a new project anyways, so he doesn't have much to do with the Souls series anymore :/ (sorry for the double post)

So him overseeing the team means he won't have anything to do with it? He even said the guy filling his spot knows more about the job than he did.

You are just in fear mode not every little change is bad.

A simple life.

They aren't going to make it easy. And besides, you can cheese every boss and enemy in DS already so I don't really see your point.

The bosses in the DLC should be standard.
