Subject: Which programming language should I start on?

I want to eventually make games, probably just flash games at the start.
I've got a book on C, so I don't know whether to start with that, or start with Javascript or maybe something else?

the most difficult one

Allons-y!

My high school teaches a programming class. Currently, we're not even on a 'language'. It's a program that teaches you how to order code and some other simplistic stuff.

OT: I suggest you do C++, then move onto Python.

C++, because if you find game design is not for you, application development is always a possible route.

c++ or c.

once youre competent at them all the others are easy.

He threw down a glove you made the mistake
Of picking it up now you're gone
The choosing of guns or fighting with swords
The choice of weapons is done
He'll tear you apart as soon as you start
You know you don't have a chance.

C++ is the way to go, if you learn C++, you can easily adapt to other languages.

C++ or maybe Java.

I hear C is the best starter one.

Anyway for flash games you'll be using ActionScript...

Apparently C is pretty easy, but C++ is more useful. It may be more productive to just go into C++ if you prefer to learn via the "Kick in the pants" method.

Dat illuminatic.

Start with Python, it's easy and will teach u the basics of programming.

If this is your first, DO NOT do C++. Try Python, C# or Java.

Python

You might end up wasting time here so you have to be REALLY dedicated towards this. If you just think it would be cool than either strengthen your dedication or just don't do it.

By the way if you want to become really proficient you will probably need a decade of experience. No means to dismotivate or anything.

I gave up and wasted my time so I'll probably take a high school course or something that way I'll have to learn.

Java is easier than C++ and does the same things. The only problem in big programs is memory usage.

From hardest to easiest on the C languages it is C, C++, C#. However I'd recommend starting with java.

Jawohl. Python is easier but in terms of games not very good.

Learn programming before you learn a programming language.

C++ because it's an extended version of C (hence the "++").

When it comes to game development C++ is the best because it's one of the fastest and most capable languages.

Java is better for beginners, though.

Okay, how would I go about doing that?

Python is better and quicker (I believe) for small scripts and tools. I saw one guy who used it to check a website every ten mins and alert him when there was something he was looking for.
