Studies show that men think about sex every 7 seconds. I do my best to eat hotdogs in under 6, just so things don't get weird.

Please allow me to introduce Myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul and faith

...Orbital Elevators and man made rings that are in orbit around Earth. I was reading 3001, the 4th book in the 2001 series, and Clarke describes man made orbital rings that are tethered to the Earth by massive elevators. The rings serves as habitats, communications, weather observers and controllers etc...

When do you think we will have this? He had it 987 years in the future. I hope it won't take quite that long.

Stop banning me please.

Space elevators seem pretty impractical at this point in history that is for sure.

I swear I read somewhere that Japan or China were planning on making one.

Holy hell, 987 years? Very unlikely it will take that long, I'd put it at around the middle of next century.

Stop banning me please.

But if I were to guess, I would say...2200?

Actually I would double that 2400

I could see a space elevator in the next century or two.

Full blown installations orbiting the earth? Im thinking 500 years minimum.

Shoot me a pm if you want to talk about anything!

Think about where we were 1000 years ago. I don't think it will take until 3001 to achieve the technological capabilities described in that novel (although I don't remember a lot from it).

"Living to smile, and not to succeed; smiling to inspire happiness, not to give the illusion you are happy; creativity and music to inspire smiling, which in turn inspires happiness; being nice to be happy, not for being perceived a good person."

I'd say about three hundred years or so.

But my thoughts are more on how we might be able to keep them in stable and precise positions, what with the eventuality of plate tectonics and environmental factors causing issues toward the elevators themselves.

NON FACET NOBIS CALCITRARE VESTRUM PERNĒ¢UM

Totally, with the current rate of progress of scientific advancement I'd bet it could be done in the next 500 years.

I like shorts. They're comfy and easy to wear.

I think I should come up with something catchy to say when I link things.

I really don't think space elevators are that far away. It seems we already have the science; we just need the means.
