My trusty Sennheiser HD428s broke after a great year of use after my kitten gnawed on the wire and broke the signal to one ear. Through some handy soldering work I managed to recover it, but the seal broke when putting the headphones back together... rage. Should I just get another pair or try something else?

I need good (but not ridiculous) bass, since I'm a bassist and love listening and transcribing songs.

I would personally opt for any Sennheiser product in your price range as they produce the best quality and generally have the longest life - do you not have a warranty for your HD428?

Ive got a HD419 and they've lasted me for 2 years and the sound quality is still brilliant should check them out - there in your price range HD419

Yeah... I'm that cool.
Robot Academy. Kinda sorta the best group on here.

Sennheiser 595 here, pretty satisfied with them.

I would try for the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro from Amazon. It's $100 new, but you can get a used pair for $45-60 bucks. Then the sound will already be broken in too.

Oh, and whatever you do, avoid Skullcandy. Their $60 headphones don't have the best sound for the money. In fact, they only have a few decent pairs; like the Aviators, which are fantastic, but $150.
