Good lord, the entitlement of some people these days. Paying to own something? That's absurd!

Sorry to add to a possible moderator quote-storm, but excuse me if I'm fiscally responsible. When the entertainment industry has absolutely no competition whatsoever (due to the fact that entertainment can't be generic-ized), companies can charge the hell out of their product.

Now, is it my right to tell them they can't? No. But don't expect people to bend over and take it in the ass because the company feels like over-charging for a non-necessary product.

How do you not own the song? The file is on your computer.

Posted by: Sgt Drifter
You don't own the song after purchase though, that's an issue that I, as well as many other people have with it.

I think he means that you can only listen to the songs you cant have the freedom of doing things like editing them into videos you created etc.

OT: IMO you cant compare the two because they sell music in completely different ways, its like comparing Netflix to retail DVD's.

I prefer actually owning my music than relying on Spotify's streaming though.
This is the only thing that's gonna keep iTunes and old school digital music sales alive.

It's also the only reason I haven't completely switched over to Spotify.

thats why i got premium

Key

No. Spotify has a -blam!- UI, it's confusing to use without someone telling you how to use it, and people don't want to keep their music on their desktop.

I find it quite amusing that iTunes's prices are now being called "outrageous".

  • 01.06.2013 4:19 PM PDT

Everything you know is wrong.

I don't see the why paying a $1.29 for a song on an album is a big deal. Yes, it is up from $0.99, but it isn't very bad.

U2's Achtung Baby is $9.99 on iTunes for 12 tracks. The songs individually are $1.29. iTunes gives buyers a deal for buying the album, instead of singling out on one song. The album would be $15.50 if $1.29 is fully totaled.

I don't like Spotify because I don't think it helps musicians. I've never liked the idea free music unless it is labelled free under the artist's consent. Maybe it is with Spotify, I don't know. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I have spotify premium, and now I use it 95% of the time. As for bandwith, the offline-mode does its job, you can "locally store" any song you want on your comp/phone. Also, assuming your friends/ relatives use spotify, you can see and listen to their playlist's as well, if you want.

I can already do that with Rhapsody. Explain to me the difference between the two services.

Free music!

I hope after three pages someone bothered to say to themselves "There's always a catch" and went and Googled Spotify to find out that the price for free music is a metric -blam!-ton of ads.

Future of music? Overtaking iTunes?

Please.

I gave up on iTunes the day my computer broke down and I discovered that I would have to backtrack all my purchases to be able to re-download everything onto the new computer. I could not understand why my account didnt have a list of previous purchases along with a re-download button. Havent used the program since.

Been using spotify since the day it was launched here in Sweden and a few other EU countries as some form of beta. Currently subscribing to the mobile version and havent experienced any lag/delay on my phone. I don't have any upload/download restrictions on my CPS.

I use Youtube and get all my music when using my computer for free. When I want it on my phone, mp3skull is my friend.

Have you tried iTunes 11? It was a major upgrade to previous versions. And yes, there is a download button.

...

I tried Spotify once... And while it was good and all, I felt like I was just streaming a Youtube video. I had no sense of ownership at all. I'll stick to using iTunes and just importing physical copies, thank you.
