Everyone thinks LP went down after Meteora and Hybrid Theory, but I think with their new album "Living Things" they've improved majorly.

Why? It's a known fact there record sales jumped when the news broke and he would be a mediocre celebrity if he was still alive.

Like Eddie Vedder or Paul McCartney is a mediocre celebrity?

Then again the amount of 'fame' means nothing. He was a talented musician and the music they made was excellent then, and is still is excellent now. Listen to Unplugged in New York and tell me you didn't enjoy it.

NME summed them up for me 'good albums by otherwise horrible bands'

Nirvana

Though I didn't grow up listening to it so I obviously don't 'get it.'

I agree with you they were good but have the reason the were big was because they were different and Kurt Cobain's suicide was a major playing
point.

You clearly know nothing about Nirvana. They had a cult following before Kurts death. They're the reason grunge became as big as it did. I'll leave you with this: Nevermind.

Now if you want an overrated band, The Beatles is your answer.

Not saying they are bad but Nevermind is regularly listed in the top 10 albums of all time I think that is ridiculous as it was barely in the top 5 of the 90s

Actually, they've always been bad

Coldplay are a fantastic band, they write great music and put on amazing live shows, IMO they "get" being successful while still maintaining their artistic integrity.

OT: Not sure i can really think of an overrated band, they all have their redeeming qualities.

Nirvana is only famous because of Smells like Teen Spirit, which along with Nevermind made Grunge famous.
In any case, Nevermind is complete pop garbage trash compared to In Utero, and Nirvana in general can't compare to their peers Pearl Jam and AiC IMO.
Honestly, I don't understand why Nirvana is so critically acclaimed. They aren't bad at all but apart from Kurt's edginess they were nothing special.

Might doesn't mean right. Sales figures mean nothing, otherwise we should be discussing how great Justin Bieber is.

-blam!- -blam!- Nirvana when it comes to grunge. Alice in Chains are the number one grunge band.

He hasn't sold that much. example Blur 24 million sold, Justin Bieber 15 Million.
