No sniper trails would make legenary so much harder, not being able to see where those jackal snipers are from their fire would be retarded.

Trails are good.

If the Covenant tech is better than Earth's, then their bullets would most likely go faster, and I don't know anyone that can even see a regular sniper shot.

Just for the record, a little google search for "bullet vapor trails" will lend some knowledge on the subject. It seems that there is a necessity for certain atmospheric conditions with a specific viewing location for the phenomena to occur. It is possible to view it in open sight, but seems to only occur on rare occasions. Check it out more for specific bullet sizes and to learn the difference between trace and a vapor trail. I still agree to keep it for the game though, H3 that is. Owndizzled!

or skill? Would it take more skill to find a sniper without the assistance of vapor trails?

Not too much more skill, really.

With or without vapor trails, let's leave it at that they're both plausible in terms so no one can argue over the other. But most sniper rifles don't give away the sniper's position that easily.

Bungie did experiment of having no trail for the Sniper Rifle in Halo 2. It didn't feel like the S2 AM we all know. Beam Rifles, is more understandable of having a trail beam effect, being a energy weapon.

actually most supersonic bullets do leave a trail; they're just so small it's almost impossible to see with the naked eye. re: special forces snipers, yes they can actually see the trail, but it's not the shooter himself that sees it. snipers operate in pairs in most cases; a shooter and a spotter. it's the spotter that sees the trail by setting his spotter scope slightly out of focus. so yes they're realistic, but not in the sense that they're so easy to see in halo.

btw i'm also for powering up the sniper rifle somewhat. the trail as is makes it too easy, but no trail would make a really talented sniper godly on a big open map. i think maybe a trail that doesn't trace the entire length of the shot; rather that only goes back 100 meters or so. enough to get an idea of direction but not enough to completely give the shooter away.

Here's a compromise, have trails, just lighter trails that diappear quicker, like vapor...not -blam!- smoke.

Just put it this way...
an option before the match starts:SNiper trails on/off.

I agree, as you would have to really look and watch for the sniper. You would have to really want to find him to be able to see the trail, not just see it out of the corner of your eye while running around. Seemingly this may be possible with the 360's advanced graphic posiibilities. Compromise reached.

What he said for both MP and main game.

Indeed. A 14.5mm APFSDS round can pierce through an armored vehicle and out the other side. It was realistic in Halo, yet in Halo 2..it takes two-three to kill a Grunt/Jackal?

The trail in Halo 2 wasn't nearly as big as the trail in Halo's sniper rifle.

I say get rid of sniper trails in halo 3.

I say to keep the sniper trails in Halo3 because the sniper is gas operated and gas operated weapons in reality would leave a trail. Anyway it just adds to the Halo atmosphere and looks awesome. I VOTE NO.

I bet that if they removed the trail, all you who wanted to remove it would get so pissed at it when you can't find their sniper, you die over and over again, so you come back here and complain about it not being here. No, don't remove it, there have to be some negative issues with weapons too, while having a rocket launcher, you can't shoot to close to yourself, and you can't shoot to far without locking on, now while using a sniper, you know that you eventually will be discovered, in like 30 seconds or so, not the case with having no trail, then it would take minutes and both snipers would only look for each other, it's just to bring a picknick basket and have fun

I agree with you on that one, it will benefit people who don't like sniper trails and people who do like them; we would all be able to make peace with each other then if it was to happen in Halo3 MP.

im not gonna break it down to a science. leave the beam the way it is, and make the human sniper's trail either a little less white (more translucent) or shorten the time the trail is seeable
