Marvel's Superman like character (Sentry) vs Superman, who would win?

For those who don't know who Sentry is.

Depends. If Sentry has the Void then forget about it. The fight's over in minutes.

If not then it's too close to tell really. Reynolds has the energy projection and telepathy, but Supes has the strength, durability and arguably the speed.

As much as I hate to say it, Superman has this. Bob just doesn't have the control over his powers that Superman has. In fact, his main attack is just ripping the enemy in half with his bare hands.

Now, when (not if) The Void gets involved, then it gets interesting. I still see Superman winning, but I also see him losing some teeth, or even an eye in the fight.

Let's say hypothetically speaking, Robert has complete control over his powers and is completely sane.

Would Supes still win?

If he's aware of what Supes is capable of, then he wouldn't be holding back. So maybe not.

But then again, Sentry's power has an upper limit, whereas Supes' does not. I guess if it was an outright punch fest then Kent would win. If not, and Reynolds is going full out, he wins marginally.

No it doesn't. In Siege, the authors were quite clear, Sentry has no upper limit on his power set. The only reason Thor was able to beat him is that Robert wanted to be beaten.

As far as the question if Sentry knew how to control his powers... I don't know. The main reason is that his whole power set wasn't revealed to us. He has the powers of flight, he's as strong as the Hulk at his angriest, he can breath in space, project energy etc... He also has a limited control of reality around him, like the Molecule Man. He reforms after some beings kill him, and he can resurrect the dead.

That's just what we've been shown.

He clearly has an upper limit if he stalemated Hulk and was depowered in the process.

I know we haven't seen much of it yet, but he hasn't exemplified anything on the planetary scale either, strength wise. So Clark has him in that category.

Like I said, Sentry has the edge in energy projection, whereas Supes has the edge in pure strength and arguably speed.

Again, we just don't know. He essentially committed suicide by Thor before we learned anything beyond he was all powerful and crazy as a -blam!- house rat. In Siege they hinted that he was the Biblical Angel of Death. That would put him in the Spectre, Saint of Killers realm of power. Again, we aren't sure, as they killed him off before we could find out.

I agree that Superman would win, but he wouldn't come out unscathed.

Yeah hinted. Saying he's in the same power bracket as Spectre is a bit of an overstatement. Living Tribunal has that badge. Maybe they meant the Void, but certainly not Robert.

I'm not so sure he could combat the full brunt of the void. Especially if Reynold's isn't holding it back.

Well, since Sentry and the Void are the same being, he technically has that power set in either form. Its just as the Void he holds nothing back.

Sentry has to be one of my favorite characters to be put in a comic. The guy is seriously messed up and just a hair shy from completely all powerful.

Comedy is no excuse for our own blasphemies.
Mass media, Mass pessimism, Mass Denial.
My television tells me to panic, but I don't think I'll listen.
The apathetic force us to persevere, with their backwards priorities.

Eh, I'll just say Sentry.

I always thought The Void was a byproduct of his mentality as well as being a separate entity from Sentry?

Nope.

In his tower, he had a room that he imprisoned the Void in. When another character went in there, they just saw a chair and a hand mirror. His personality split, and whenever he did a good deed, he switched personae and went out and did a bad one to balance things.

Like I said, he was as crazy as a -blam!- house rat.
