Bungie doesn't like French on their site.

(If you don't have a child, use your imagination.)

I've notice threads about how violent video games effect people. And I've also notice my little brother; Jordan(10) become increasingly violent, short-tempered, and foul-mouth since he has began playing rated M games like: CoD, Halo, Borderlands 2 and saints row the 3rd.

He has his own xbox in his room that he literally plays for hours on end - with no breaks. I'm talking about 6 hours before our mother orders him to get off and eat something. He's whole world IS his bloody xbox.

If it were my ten year old, firstly there would be breaks. Play for two hours at least, take a hour break, continue gaming. Secondly, I'd have him play only E to E +10 until he's 13; then he can play rated T games. Once he's 17 (or mature enough) he could play M rated games. Basically, I'd follow the rating system.

Now how about you? If or when you have a kid, how will you allow him or her to play video games? Would you follow the rating system? Or would you not care and let em do as they wish.

Now how about you?
Seeing as I have to use my imagination, I'll let my son Master Chief play any video game he wants. Except Halo 4.

The HELL you are! These are precious gifts to me and they are non-transferable! How dare you regift my challenge prize. You might as well hock a wedding ring for beer money. -DeeJ

When I have a child i'm not letting him play M rated games unless I know he's mature. Or unitil he hits 17.

  • 01.07.2013 4:47 AM PDT

What are these first person words you speak of?

Teh puma wouldn't follow the rating system so strictly, seeing as how some games get ratings they don't deserve.

That's your problem OP.

I'd let them play whatever they want after the age they mature and can understand manners and how death actually works and that guns just don't go pang pang you're dead, respawn!

Not sure, could always exclude video games from my sons youth...but why the heck would you do that?!

But it do.

They can play each rating 3 years early. Unless they're brats.

He's unruly. If you're not his parents, he wouldn't listen to you. Try and take away a game he likes, he'll throw a fit. I completely agree with you though.

That's a good system. I like it.

For all questions with answers unknown to you, the proper procedure is to assume the answer is peanut butter.

While that may be true, I'm just going to pretend otherwise.

Try talking to your parents and get them to get him under control.

If I had a child I would have to kill myself, I think that would do a lot more damage to him/her than any video game.

If only it were that easy.

>Record what he does in these games and how he acts while/after playing them.
>Record what he does if you take away his games.
>Show recordings to parents.
>Let them decide how to handle it.

Just don't let him know that you're recording and you have your evidence that these games, combined with your parents not doing their job as parents, is making your little brother into a brat.

What do I look like? A CIA agent?

Lulz. Not a bad idea.

I work for the Department of Defense.

Ah, another child spoiled rotten by a neglectful joke of a parent.

I won't be having kid's in any foreseeable future, but if I did, 10 is imo FAR too young to have your own console in your own room.

I would have it in the living room so I could monitor my child's activity. After a set amount of years or time, if the level of maturity seemed tolerable, they might get the right to have it in their room. I also would not buy them crappy war simulation games, because I'm not an idiot.

Depends. I'll try and shape his/her opinions on gaming. Like my parents I'll probably introduce my kid[s] to gaming through adventure games which aren't crude and are still fun. For me it was Ty the Tasmanian Tiger, Crimson Skies, Speed Kings, Midnight Club LA etc.

Definitely no shooters until 13.

I think I might save my old DS and a few pokemon games for when I have a kid. Introduce them with Pokemon.

Because every child deserves to play at least one pokemon game in their childhood.

Pokemon is good too. I remember playing it when I was a kid. People tend to forget that games don't have to be violent to be fun.

I think that the 10 year old is violent, short tempered and foul mouthed because the mature games are built for people who can handle it and not be enraged by people on Xbox Live, difficulties and complicated themes which young kids tend to have difficulty understanding.

Childeren's games are very consumer friendly, very simple with light themes and shorter easier to complete levels, built with childerens shows like playschool and such in mind. They also assume constant parent supervision and direction.

The bad language happens to everyone, even i have a tendancy to swear more after playing or watching a game or movie that has lots of bad language in it. It can be bad if the child is talking over XBOX live. Even (Read:especially) if they are 12 or 13, XBLA chat is a horrible place, people dont like younger kids or any type of kid and will swear and troll and pick on any target they deem "squeaker".

Maybe let him play singleplayer and motivate him to refrain from multiplayer. But most importantly, understand the game. The rating system isnt perfect. Halo Reach was MA, but then so was assassins creed and max payne, and they varied greatly. I would let anyone play Halo reach, but i might if i was a conservative parent wait till they're 13 or so for Max Payne.

Oh, and never ever restrict a child from anything until you know what their personal maturity and sophistication is like. I know some 10 year olds who understand the philosophies of Assassins creed and can follow and understand the storyline of Dear Esther, yet there is no age i have seen where there hasnt been completely stupid immaturity present. They can have the mind of a 2 year old.

Seeing as programming is going to be my future field and i'm really good with computers i'd aim to raise my child around technology and build PC's with him and such.

For games so long as they are mature i don't mind, if they can tell it's a game and aren't going to be negatively affected by it then they can play.

Also don't be a hypocrite with you child, saying playing 17+ rated games at young ages is terrible when we were playing games like doom and halo at ages 7.

Me and my bro were allowed to play any video game we want, and we were never like that. But I think I'll know what kind of games my child would be playing, and they certainly ain't gonna be playing no online gaming until I know that they're mature.

A good ol' Pokemon adventure should do the trick.

The definition of "insanity" is: Doing the exact, same -blam!- thing, over and over again, expecting -blam!- to change. That is "crazy".

Also, I make pone wellpoopers.

Did I ever tell you the definition of "insanity"?

I've been playing M-Rated games ever since I was 6 and I'll have you know I've only brutally beaten a few people.

It is very dark, and you are likely to be eaten by a Grue.

My son will not play for hours on end like that... and certainly not at 10yo.

  • 01.07.2013 5:34 AM PDT

I eat my milk...

...without any milk.

Since no one forced me to follow the rating system, and I don't feel that I'm a murderous psychopath waiting to happen, I would probably let him or her play M games at 13 or 14.

And no 6 hour sessions. That's kind of insane.
