Bungie doesn't like French on their site.

The bad language happens to everyone, even i have a tendancy to swear more after playing or watching a game or movie that has lots of bad language in it. It can be bad if the child is talking over XBOX live. Even (Read:especially) if they are 12 or 13, XBLA chat is a horrible place, people dont like younger kids or any type of kid and will swear and troll and pick on any target they deem "squeaker".

He did actually complain about that, forgot to mention that in the OP.

Maybe let him play singleplayer and motivate him to refrain from multiplayer. But most importantly, understand the game. The rating system isnt perfect. Halo Reach was MA, but then so was assassins creed and max payne, and they varied greatly. I would let anyone play Halo reach, but i might if i was a conservative parent wait till they're 13 or so for Max Payne.

I have no authority over him. And it seems..out of place for me to act like the parent. I don't think our parents would even like that.

Oh, and never ever restrict a child from anything until you know what their personal maturity and sophistication is like. I know some 10 year olds who understand the philosophies of Assassins creed and can follow and understand the storyline of Dear Esther, yet there is no age i have seen where there hasnt been completely stupid immaturity present. They can have the mind of a 2 year old.

He's does NOT have the personal maturity or sophistication that is ideal to play the games he plays. For example, he's playing BO 2, he dies - cries, throws a fit and screams, 'oh my gawd!.' Sometimes instead of walking away, he throws his controller on the group in rage. It's ridiculous. I might just take away the games he rages at. (which are all shooters and not appropriate for him to begin with)

I was playing games like Resident Evil since I was 5 or 6. I remember having the first and second on PS1.

I'm perfectly fine.

The only game that has actually scared me was the first Harry Potter game. Dem animated suites of armour.

t3hAvenger77 - XBL (BF3, ME3, Blops)
decla1mer104 - Origin (BF3)
Steam

I'll play it first to see if it's violent enough for me to not allow my child to play.

If it's not excessively violent, I'll let him play.

Console goes in the living room and they're allowed to play LIVE with everyone muted and no microphone. Done.

Friggin' Search and Destroy in CoD... so many little kids screaming the F word over the years. Unbelievable..

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.
-Douglas Adams

It really depends on how mature they are to begin with and their understanding of violence and war in the real world.

As long as they understand the huge difference between what happens in a game and what happens in reality I think it's fine.

My first shooters were Medal of Honor:Rising Sun and Medal of Honor:Frontline. I started playing them around 5th grade and my Dad made sure I understood the difference between fantasy violence and actual violence. Played T rated games such as those until I bought my 360 in 2008 at age 13 and played my first M rated game, Halo 3.

I'lll let potential children of mine start to play violent video-games around the same age I started if they're interested. If they're mature and can understand the difference between reality and fantasy violence, shooters and such shouldn't be an issue.

RIP Logan ~B.B.

I don't really care about the ratings too much. Will see if it looks appropriate or not. I look forward to playing games with my son. I think the worst part of gaming is the online community, so he will not be playing online unsupervised for quite a while. How much he gets to play will depend on his grades.

I like to do a little thing called parenting.
As of now, my daughter plays board games. Board games that are in her age range.

As she get's older, she'll still have to play games that are in her age range. That rule of mine will never change.

As of how long and when she can play "video games", we'll have to see when we reach that point. Her school and chores will always come first though.

Why did you click the more button? By accident? Reply is at the bottom...
They call me The Precursor

Been playing games since I was five, ratings hardly mattered.

-I don't swear.
-I'm not very violent
-I have no idea how to use a gun
-I'm not obese.
-I am very calm and collected.

Never understood why people think games have negative effects on kids. I was playing GTA Vice City when I was 10, and it never made me swear or become violent because my parents actually payed attention to me and educated me on these things and made sure I knew they were wrong.

The ratings system may be required for very young children, but as long as you monitor your child and what they're doing, and make sure they know running over 100 pedestrians isn't very nice, they will not become the swearing violent scum that is oh so common in gaming nowadays.

I certainly wouldn't let my kid play CoD at 10 years old.

What would probably happen is that he would end up playing it at a friend's house. Because it's obvious that most parents don't seem to care.

I'm actually pretty surprised that the flood would restrict their children.

Halo shouldn't have the rating it has. No swearing and no where close to cod violence

Studies show that men think about sex every 7 seconds. I do my best to eat hotdogs in under 6, just so things don't get weird.

Please allow me to introduce Myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul and faith

Actually, I am making the choice that my boy will only play games that are rated for his age. At 10 he will not be paying games like Call of Duty. Furthermore, he won't be playing any games where humans kill humans.when he's 17 he can choose his own games, until then, I pick.

  • 01.07.2013 8:17 AM PDT

Well if i had a say 10 year old kid i wouldn't use the rating system, id just use common sense. There are some games out there that are so overrated it's ridiculous.

You cant judge everyone on the actions of a few little brats. I've played game since I was a little kid and i've never felt the urge to act out the things I do in those games. You really need to stop listening to people whose only goal is to make you worry.

  • 01.07.2013 8:23 AM PDT

I've played M games since I was about 10 and it really hasn't changed me. Parenting is the problem not the games.

  • 01.07.2013 8:24 AM PDT

Major props to my hommie Sheeef. He made Recon possible for me. Long time recovering emails and passwords. And it was his. lol.

I have have a 13month old son. I'm not worried.

I'm not going to introduce my kid to video games, only if he finds interest in it. I would keep tabs to make sure he has a good balance of also playing outside, sports, with friends, etc. I wouldn't let him play M rated until middle school, but I would have a talk with him beforehand.

  • 01.07.2013 8:27 AM PDT

Now let's get down to business, I don't got no time to play around, what is this?

I wouldn't encourage my kids to play violent video games, but I used to play GTA at my friend's house when I was 7 (I wasn't allowed them) and I turned out fine. We used to spend like all day playing San Andreas.

Whilst I'm not a parent myself, I find it hard to look at this situation any other way than this.

For a few people it does change them, but mostly parenting. That's why I feel like you need to to have an adult with you if buying an M rated game. It varies by store but I think it should be mandatory.

Most stores I go require a parent to be there to buy an a m game. Before I was 17 my mother had to go with me into the store. Also of course there will always be certain cases where people are affected, but that can be with any form of media, not just games.

My children could play 4 years early (PEGI rating system).
