Seriously, why? Is it some kind of sick joke? Do people enjoy burning their tongues drinking scalding hot coffee?

If I'm sitting down at a coffee shop, I don't want to wait 15 minutes for my coffee to cool down. I want to start drinking it as soon as I get it. But no, they have to be dicks and serve it ridiculously hot.

On a semi-related note, I hate how much cream cheese they put on bagels too. There are two globs of unnecessary cream cheese on my plate right now. What's the point of putting so much damn cream cheese on bagels?!?!

They want you to stay... So you can get one of those bagels while you wait.

When I get a cup of coffee, I always want it scalding hot. I would much rather it be too hot than too cold.

You can wait for hot coffee to cool down, but you can't wait for cold coffee to become hot.

Same like whenever I cook steak for people. If I undercook it and they want it cooked more, I can throw it back on the grill. I can't un-overcook it.

I think its cause they serve so much your basically getting a cup poured while its still being made. But at Starbucks you can actually specify what temperature you want it to the degree.

The whole point of coffee is to be hot...

You sip it, not gulp it...

I realize that. But there's absolutely no reason why it needs to be served at near boiling temperatures.

My coffee machine at home makes coffee at the right temperature. Hot, but not enough to burn your tongue. Why can't shops serve it like that?

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

I thought coffee was supposed to be served hot.
Not if it is hotter than what you prefer, I found this could help you cool your cup of coffee down quickly.

Also, can't you ask them for a cup of coffee that isn't so hot?

  • 01.07.2013 7:24 AM PDT

They serve it that hot so it doesn't cool down minutes after you get it.

Its so you can take it away and drink it as you walk to work for example, on a side note I also like my coffee to be too hot than cool but that is personal preference.

I doubt it, their equipment is probably set to produce a certain temperature so one way to cool would be to to add milk (if that's how you like you coffee).

Why do coffee shops serve their coffee so damn hot?
I had the same question. I was told that when people are going to work in the morning and stop to get coffee, they don't want it to be cool when they arrive at work.

This guy is correct.

I know right? I usually ask for one ice cube to cool my coffee. It sounds idiotic, but it works.

Next time I go to the coffee shop, I'm gonna bring a thermometer. Water boils at about 210 degrees Fahrenheit. I'm fairly certain the coffee is served at about 180 degrees.

If I recall correctly, McDonald's used to serve their coffee at about 195-200 degrees. Now that's ridiculous.

It's tempting, but I'm not in the mood for third-degree burns.

  • 01.07.2013 10:08 AM PDT

If its a drive through shop, they probably do it do it doesn't cool down to much when you're on the road.
