No offense Ken, but "Really soon." probably doesn't mean much more than "Soon." Writing all this stuff down again feels like overkill. Would be awesome if it was only a few days away though. After waiting so long to "soon", I just don't know anymo-I AM FREAKING LOSING IT PEOPLE.
Urk said "Really soon" means within the month. Bungie.Next is near.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

That sounds great and a way for more people to get involved, I guess if anyone wants to offer to help people they can list so in this thread. But it is important to note that all official responses for questions come from moderators/employees, we are simply here to offer our advice and to help steer people in the right direction to prevent any unforeseen issues that occur with new users joining a new forum.

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

What the hell happened to throwing the people to the wolves and letting them figure their own way? What is with all of the guides?

I swear you people would have been ripped to shreds back in the Zanzibar days.

Wasn't that back before we had all these awesome features? Like the titles and ranks.

Getting ripped to shreds does not make for a good first impression nor provides new users with the willingness to want to come back. I hope that we can be seen as a community that is not hostile and welcoming.

Besides, with a little education and help from us, there will be a lot less problems from new people as they interact with old school members.

As the forums are not packed as they used to be and its now key to keep a hold of what we've got. Its better to set a positive example of the forum to attract more users rather than put them off from posting all together

We need to encourage the community to get closer rather than intimidate and make our cons seem more in number than our positives - not helping and leaving users to stand alone is no longer the way forward in my opinion

(just my 2 cents)

Saw this post, pre-edit. By your own admission, it was an off-topic question. Please don't post misleading information. Thank you.

:O - oh snap!

OT : I think it's good that you've made all the information centralized. If I just joined B.net and saw this thread, I would find it very useful.

That's great, but it won't draw people to the site. Maybe some old members will get curious, but what's going to attract people is Destiny. A site update is great. However that wouldn't make a person online want to join because we had an update. That's a gift to the people already here. Even if I've misunderstood what you said, we should be posting all this stuff after new members start showing up in mass, not a month or so before. To Ken's credit though it was well written.

Actually getting ripped to shreds is for the best.

Back when you are a member you are prey, cowering in the shadow of the higher members. You get ripped to little pieces and for the next few years you find yourself picking them up everywhere to put yourself back together.

However, after all this time the pieces start to dry out and toughen up. When you are fully reassembled, the claws of the legendaries and talons of the mythics don't penetrate your thick hide. You grow sharp claws on your hands yourself and join your ranks in the predators.

Those who remain soft, flying rather than fighting when instincts kick in, they are only gaining a few extra precious seconds before there mettle is tested and they are torn to pieces.

Hell, I think we need a guide from the mythics.

That is the point of this thread, if you have advice feel free to share, I am sure new members would appreciate it. But remember this, we are setting an example for the new community and we want to have an atmosphere that is welcoming and makes people want to come back.

Ken, we are supposed to be quarantining the Flood forum so the the minds of newcomers are not tainted beyond repair. You should make no mention that it even exists. I am breaking proper quarantine procedure so that the issue can be corrected and the path to sterilization can continue.

That's a good way to get banned. New users probably will take the time to look at the rule threads that are stickied. If those weren't there, then they would have to search harder for the rules.

Although there are some that just don't care and never look at the rules.

Advice

1. Don't be annoying
2. Read 1.
3. Read 2.
4. You may find yourself ingrained and caring too much about site politics and titles. Chill, it's just a website. Have fun, but don't worry about anything.
5. Don't worry about titles (or whatever progression there is .next), they come in time.
6. Don't be a dick.

And all of us weren't welcomed in this way when we joined, people still stay.

"Life to you stepson and everlasting glory. " Thifes World.

OP i have to say when i joined seeing this would have made it much easier. Not to say the information was not here it just needed to be localized.

Biggest Problem i see with new B.net goers is where to post topics. Took me a year to properly figure out everything. Two days to properly post.

Its best if people take the time to read it does help rather than being told its in the wrong forum. Just simple observation over the years i hope others agree.
