Subject: Halo Wars... anybody remember?

I swear to DRUNK, I'm not GOD!

I just got Halo Wars back from the friend I'd lent it to for a long time and played through the campaign for the first time in years.

This was actually not such a bad game! I'd really like to see a sequel... preferably one where unit pathfinding issues are ironed out. Yeah, the controls are pretty bad and make it almost impossible to micro-manage your units, and the limitations of your unit selection options mean the primary strategy of this RTS is building up a big ball of death and crushing everything on the map with that.

But still, I think Halo Wars had a lot of potential. It's been about 4 years since the game came out in 2008, and the graphics are pretty superb, about on par with StarCraft 2 (2010) or Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 2 (2009) at least in terms of unit detail, which is impressive for a console title.

Anybody ever wonder if they'll make a Halo Wars 2?

Ad Infinitum

They won't. The company that made Halo Wars is dead and forgotten.

Currently studying Computer Science & Software engineering. Hope to work on mobile devices of the future! When a certain game's credits roll, look out for my name! ;)

You will -blam!- bricks when you see what game it is! =)

Well if someone DOES make a sequel its sure as hell will not be Ensemble Studios.

It had so so much potential. I'm not even a big RTS fan I can't play command and conquer to save my life but I did love Halo wars.

I used to love it, I used to have a really high online rank as well, used to have strategies and micromanaged to hell with the arbiter

The original Dawn of War was better in my opinion.

  • 01.07.2013 8:51 AM PDT

I really did indeed enjoy Halo Wars, and even now use its multiplayer, despite playing Starcraft a fair bit.

  • 01.07.2013 8:51 AM PDT

Halo Wars had fantastic cutscene detail. The gameplay was pretty good too, I still play it from time to time. It's not without flaws, but it's not bad.

  • 01.07.2013 8:52 AM PDT

Wow, just wow!

I'd probably buy a Halo Wars 2. It's a nice distraction from the games I normally play.

Although I would love to see a higher unit limit. I would just love to have 80 or so warthogs charging an enemy's base.

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

The campaign missions are damn near unplayable for me, but the story is amazing and the cutscenes are great. I have a lot of fond multiplayer memories too.

Overall a great console RTS game, 7/10 for me.

I take it you're here for a reason?

I loved doing the campaign mission where you hijack the Scarab. It looked awesome when I had it and two Locusts destory a base together.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

I still constantly play it. I have hundreds of hours put in the multiplayer which I love.

I really hope a sequel comes out at some point.

  • 01.07.2013 8:54 AM PDT

Remember it? I still play it. Definitely been one of my favorite games. I am really hoping they make a sequel. I don't see why not, it will make money since it has the halo name and a lot of new players are entering the fan base.

I personally think the controls are excellent and never have problems micro-managing my units.

Yeah, I think the unit limit was due to some limitations of the 360 hardware... although you can have way more units in that one gametype where all the units you build are at their highest level right from the start, so I don't know.

Oh yeah! Deathmatch was a blast... I remember having an infantry army that sprawled across half the map!

Butt ugly ape” remarked Sergeant Johnson always making fun out of the situation even though he had been hit by a spiker round in the arm. He mustered up the strength to continue and the team moved on. The Arbiter informed him that the next room held The Prophet of Truth and this was the final room before extraction. Jun proposed that he takes a shot from a distance the prophet and they all head back to the ship bay for extraction. The team agreed on this and breached the last door…

I'm in the same boat as you, OP.

If they made Halo Wars Two I would Probably pre-order.

I found the controls to micro-manage units pretty easy though. Especially locking down cobra's.

We had a very successful Community Carnage a few months ago. Believe me, people remember. It's a pretty fun game for customs honestly.

I still play Halo Wars occasionally, I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel at some point.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

I think Wars surprised pretty much everyone, including MS who closed the studio before even seeing how the game would sell. Considering it was an RTS game on console, it was fairly well done from a gameplay perspective and would most certainly have done well with a refined sequal.

I was kidding. I actually like the game, despite sucking complete a$$ at it. The story was good and the music was marvellous.
