Fact: The Columbine shooters got their guns at gun stores and gun shows
Fact: so did hundreds of millions of law-abiding citizens.
Gun control =/= stopping law abiding citizens from getting guns

I'm calling for compromise, not banning everything like some people. I will happily side with pro-gun people on the idea that people should be able to defend themselves, hunt, and recreationally shoot, but not at the cost of human lives.

yes. You can get guns at a show wihtout background checks or license

No, you can't, not legally.

You can in texas

Not even in Texas.

All firearm sales to a person from a dealer is subject to ATF Form 4473, even at Gun Shows. ATF Form 4473 is a background check as your information is entered into NICS or or National Instant Criminal Background Check System. Every dealer is subject to this law, if they have a Federal Firearms License or FFL, and are a Dealer, they are subject. No state law is allowed to circumvent the federal law, and any FFL that disobeys that law will lose their license and be charged with a Felony.

The only case when this isn't true is in Private Party Transfers. These can happen anywhere and at any time. It is a transfer of someone's property and thus not subject to ATF form 4473.

Do these people honestly believe that banning gun shows will stop mass shootings?
They glorify guns and you can buy weapons without proof of identification or showing your license.

meaning anybody can buy a weapon without a background check so it might as well be a public black market.

May not be legal but it doesn't stop people getting them without a license.

There are video's online of it happening so please don't like it doesn't happen, I can get 5 video's of it happening.

lol at anyone who blames inanimate objects instead of our piss-poor healthcare.

It's not even the healthcare. It's the fact that we don't search out the psychotic nutjob children in our schools. We need to do a better job of separating and isolating them from everyone else, and wait until they do something stupid. At that point, you lock them up.

Oh it happens, but you are admitting the problem that gun owners scream about.

Crime happens despite any laws in place. A law in no way shape or form will stop a crime from being committed.

He's not wrong. Guns aren't the problem. Responsible gun owners aren't the problem. Mentally stable gun owners aren't the problem.

It's the mentally unstable who don't have access to adequate mental health care that are.

I was lol'ing at the idea at the inanimate object bull. You could say heroin shouldnt be banned as it is inanimate, and it's a persons choice to take it. But you would also be wrong.

But I do think that drugs should be legal. Why should someone be kept from using it in the privacy of their own home?

Nobody blamed the planes in 9/11. Why are we blaming the guns here?

  • 01.07.2013 1:37 PM PDT

Here is the thing. People like to kill others and it's way faster to do it with a gun then with a knife or some other object and that's why you see guns involved in homicides.

I dont know, maybe because it would put an ENORMOUS strain on healthcare, and crime would probably rocket.

Just a thought.

I'm pretty sure crime skyrocketed because drugs are illegal and people will buy them whether or not the government says no.

Oh wait.
but nobody said we should ban all planes. Nobody blamed Boeing. We were attacked and helped prevent potential future incidents from happening.

How would pissing off gun owners help? Gunshows aren't places where people plot their shooting attacks and trade items to murder people. They are places for people with a common love, to meet each other and share thier interests. I guarantee you, if it was talk about all games rated over E being destroyed and ban from sale, and any gaming conventions being prohibited NOT A ONE OF YOU WOULD BE SUPPORTING THESE BLAMES OR BE TAKING IT LIGHTLY. YOU WOULD ALL BE PISSED OFF.

So why are you surprised that gun enthusiests are defending their passion when it is being accused of being the entire problem?

Ok, say there are thousands of hard heroin addicts in a city. They run out of cash. Crime skyrockets. Jails overflow.

Dating Age

For those looking to vent, get proper advice, or give it to those in need.

The biggest threat to gun owners isn't some wacky hippie politician introducing legislation to restrict gun ownership. The biggest threat is public perception turning on gun owners. That is a far more powerful force and when you have these mass shooting, which have steadily been on the rise, constantly making the news you're going to see people shun the idea of gun ownership and demand draconian measures against it.

So what should be happening? Well we've extensively discussed the whole assault rifle thing so let's discuss some other measures.
- Abysmal conditional of mental health care needs to be addressed.
- Draconian punishments for gun violence that stigmatizes it. Felons cannot ever buy a gun again.
- Gun tax. Reduce the quantity being sold and use revenue to offset the inevitable damages that come with gun ownership. So think of it like a smoking tax.
- No second hand market for gun sales. Every gun sale must take place between buyers and reputable licensed gun stores that engage in thorough background checks.

I'd wager that the use of hard drugs like meth, heroine, cocaine, etc, will increase very little. The legality of the drugs isn't what keeps people from doing them; the fact they they are likely to kill them is.

I'm not talking about drug addiction; I'm talking about drug use.

Even if heroin was legal to buy, sell, and use, I still wouldn't do it. I think a lot of people share that outlook. That's my point.
