Reach's biggest problem is that while Fall of Reach is a great book, it doesn't set the stage very well for a videogame.
I disagree. They could have actually implemented the superb storytelling method of ODST's flashbacks and used that to jump from various Spartans, starting from the battle of Sigma Octanus IV where you discover Installation 04's coordinates to ending with Operation: FIRST STRIKE, tying together CE's end with 2's beginning as well.
Or perhaps made the game from a marine/army trooper's point of view, seeing as they could actually show some emotion when needed, and it would have made the game a tougher fight. It was a tough fight for everyone on the ground, but it was the hardest for the marines, the normal, non-augmented humans with advanced armour and tech.
To this day I will never understand why they took the shoe-horned-in spartan III route for the campaign.
