You can't restrict the amount of crazy people are. You can't ban crazy people. There is no way to stop people from being insane. What you can do is limit the tools that are used by those who are crazy.
Also have you ever had to defend yourself with a gun, let me know.

Haven't noticed this myself, but I guess by doing these little insignificant things people think they're helping or having more respect?

Great minds discuss ideas

Average minds discuss events

Small minds discuss people

That's what mental hospital are for. Instead of increasing regulations and bans, lets increase our knowledge and education of the problems.

The crazy people are getting the guns. Gun shops need to start denying people guns if they seem off.

It's simple, really.

Better access to adequate mental health care = fewer crazy people likely to shoot up a school, mall, theater, etc.

The funny thing is - I'm really an anti-gun person. I don't own a firearm, nor do I plan on it. I've only shot a gun once, and it was doing some clay target shooting with a shotgun. I think guns are largely unnecessary in today's world.

However, I wont get in your way of owning one legally.

+1 for you good sir.

Listen, we need better mental health studies to identify people that have them early on.

Gun shops will need to check their customers background before they purchase a weapon, and if it says the customer has some sort of mental disabilities, they are not allowed to make a purchase.

This last part may be a bit harsh, but it's a necessity as well. Most mass murderers with mental disabilities seem to get their weapons from a family member. So if anyone in the family has any sort of regular contact with someone with a mental disilability and tries to buy a gun, they won't be able to either.

The issue isn't so much with the guns, but with people.

Because it's easier to talk about how games/music/movies influenced the shooter rather than have a national conversation about responsible gun ownership and adequate access to mental health care.

Pretty much.

The human element always mucks things up.

People would rather think with their hearts instead of their brains. It's easier that way.

Ronald Reagan made it so that mentally insane people are not required to be in a mental institution and do you think that crazy people want to be locked up? I think not.

*sigh*

Which is why we need to talk about access to adequate mental health care. Did I not say this on the first page of this thread?

actually true. In the 50s-70s we had more people in insane asylums then any other nation. So did we make mental healthcare easier to come by to help reduce the numbers? Nope. We made it harder to be considered legally insane. We put a bandaid on it instead of fixing the problem.

That would be like releasing prisoners without rehabilitaion early in order to alleviate prison overcrowding. Which wouldn't be an issue if executions were still able to be done (not legal/ not being done atm in my state, California. Surprise, surprise, we are one of the states with the most overcrowded prisons! Of course this is an oversimplification of the issue, and there are other solutions that would need to be done also... I seem to have gotten off topic)

Because people have no self discipline and allow their fear turn into hysteria and then make their decisions based off of emotional, rather than rational reasons.
