Subject: Do you see Psychology as a Science?

however it holds less value than other natural sciences in my opinion.

I don't discredit that opinion. I agree.

What I'm saying is that astronomy has not actually produced anything of great importance. Astronomy has motivated people strive for certain innovations to observe the stars, like you said, but the actual science itself has not provided a lot of valuable knowledge that we can apply on earth.
See a few posts above.

I see what's going on here. I was thinking astrophysics was a separate science from astronomy, when it's a branch of astronomy. I was under the assumption that astronomy dealt only with the study of celestial bodies and astrophysics was the study of the physical properties and chemistry of the stars. My apologies, and the fault is on me.

On December 1st, 2012, I met Neil deGrasse Tyson. I shook the man's hand, and even made him laugh. Not much else to do with my life now.

If they are still looking, then while holding the snarl, I let drool start to drip from my mouth, I stand, curl my fingers into claws and with a hunched over crouch, I then make slow and deliberate steps towards them. When I get close enough, I let them hear my agonized and gasping growls and then, if they continue to stare, when I get within arm's reach? I kiss them on the nose, and run away giggling.

Want to piss off a Psychiatrist?

Tell them that "We keep trying different drugs in different dosages and combinations in order to try to get a desired result. This seems a bit like alchemy with all of this trial and error."

It isn't always a good idea to anger someone who could section you :/

Dear Floodians:

A Girl thread a day keeps the ladies at bay and gets us banned, the lonely single way.

I would say not, just because of the inconsistent behaviour of the human mind.

It's interesting, it probably is hard as hell, but I wouldn't call Psychology a Science.

Aspiring filmmaker

Psychology is in its own category.

No, not really. For the most part, the field uses no scientific process. They have few testable theories, have difficulty sharing information with each other, and numerous studies have shown their methods are only as sound as individual believe in them.

More detailed argument I made some time ago.

Of particular note, This paper, in which a prominent psychology professor decries the lack of a scientific approach in the field.

Actually understanding the science and theories in psychology is quite easy, The only hard thing I have found about Psychology as a course is writing the huge essays in 30 Minutes.

Whilst people sometimes think that the behaviour of the mind is inconsistent there are quite a few patterns that like to appear. But they get disrupted by people who don't fit the category hence the whole inconsistency :s

Let me guess, a Physics elitist?

Well physics is the undisputed king of sciences (at least empirical ones). That being said, psych is a science, though it's distinct from natural ones.

When I speak of astronomy, I am speaking of all sub categorical works, including cosmology, astrophysics, and quantum mechanics. So then this entire damn conflict is rooting in semantics, it seems.

Quantum isn't really a subset of Astronomy. Neither is Cosmology, though they're pretty closely related.

I'll bring the tritium laser cutters if you bring the beer!

Funny story.

No, Psychology has no paradigm defining theory. Not enough science too much quackery.
