Da source.

Murderers, -blam!- predators and other men housed at a unit for mentally ill inmates at the maximum-security state prison in Fort Madison were allowed to watch movies such as "Deranged," a horror film that includes a scene in which a woman is beaten, raped, hung upside down and skinned. Among other movies inmates watched were "Delta of Venus," an erotic film; "Coffey," which shows sadism and attempted -blam!-; and "Cruel Intentions," records show.

Despite correctional officer Kristine Sink's complaints, administrators told her not to turn off the movies or shows. When she did, they accused her of insubordination, according to department records that Sink provided to The Associated Press. One warden blamed Sink for causing problems by complaining, and another supervisor suggested her outfits - a standard-issue uniform - were enticing inmates.

Personally, I think inmates shouldn't be awarded the luxury of watching TV in the first place.

What else would they be doing? Sitting in their cell dreaming up ways to kill the guards and escape? I'd rather they watch TV.

Depends on the person, and they should only be allowed to watch any kind of movie if they worked their ass off.

If you assign every letter of the alphabet a number, a is 1, b is 2, etc., and you take all of the values of the word "MATH", and add them, you get 42. So math is the meaning of life, the universe, and everything.

This I can agree with.

+1 for you good sir.

They're meant to teach the inmates how to properly function in society. Hence the "correctional" part. So if that means they get some luxuries to help sure.

OT: Movies are fine, but not violent ones that parallel why they're in there.

Personally, I think that female guards should stick to women's prisons and the same for guys. How can you you go to work as a woman in a facility full of violent offenders that haven't had sex with a woman in months or years and expect not to be treated like -blam!-. It's awful and shouldn't happen, but it does so it's best to try to stay away from it than change a centuries old system embedded into society.

Work? Doing prison chores that prisons have started paying for instead? Read a book in the library?

There are people in America that can no longer afford cable television. Prisoners live better than some lower class working Americans.

You make a good point, haha.

Honestly to me the bigger issue (from the snippet posted here) is the "corporate culture" (for lack of better term) of the guards. This woman complains, and they claim that she's causing trouble with her outfit, which is a standard-issue uniform? Misogynist much?

Check out my youtube channel. http://www.youtube.com/user/ultratog1028

Inmates should get news channels and weather channel. News to stay up to date, and weather to know what the weather will be. Everything else is a luxury.

Though to keep violence down and keep them at least semi entertained, give them the disney channel. Safe non violent disney channel.

I like shorts. They're comfy and easy to wear.

That isn't the issue here. It was only the administrators who even suggested that her sex be a problem.

What if they don't know how to read? And they only get these things if they behave and it's only like an hour a day. That's like saying I don't think you should be on the internet because of all the bad stuff on it that will corrupt your mind. They are already paying for their crime by being in the system. You can't take away certain liberties away from people just because there are people in the United States that are worse off then people in prison. Here is a solution stop taking things to court that don't need to go to court. Stop holding people for no reason. And I'm talking drug offenses not -blam!- and murder. The prison system is overran with people who have no reason to be there and when they come out they are hardened, scared, no future prospects, so they do what feels natural to them and 9 times out of 10 they end back up in prison.

Recon Number 54 -
If they are still looking, then while holding the snarl, I let drool start to drip from my mouth, I stand, curl my fingers into claws and with a hunched over crouch, I then make slow and deliberate steps towards them. When I get close enough, I let them hear my agonized and gasping growls and then, if they continue to stare, when I get within arm's reach? I kiss them on the nose, and run away giggling.

They should get a cell, bread & water.

No TV, PS3 and films. All the fancy stuff they get is ridiculous.

Also, who the hell thought showing violent films like that to Sex offenders and murderers is a good idea?!

For good behavior, sure. It would be ridiculous to argue that any type of violent media would change their behavior in a negative way.

Denying them any sort of entertainment period just seems horrible.

Like violent images and media having a link to increased aggression?

And that is among mentally stable adults who can control those increased aggressive tendencies. This was a prison unit of mentally ill and unstable people.

Glory and fame, blood is our name!
Souls full of thunder, hearts of steel!
Killers of men, a warrior's friend!
Sworn to avenge our fallen brothers!
Sons of the gods, today we shall die.
Open Valhalla's door!
Let the battle begin, with swords in the wind! Hail Gods of War!

This world wants to drag you down... And the weight, that guilt they want to hang around your neck, you don’t have to carry it one more step. You think they won’t let you rest, but it’s not up to them. It never was.

..."Deranged," a horror film that includes a scene in which a woman is beaten, raped, hung upside down and skinned. Such a film shouldn't exist at all, let alone be viewed by inmates.

If they can control themselves, and have good behavior, then they should be able to watch what they want.

If you limit their exposure to violence, then they will never be rehabilitated.

I'd rather they all suffer like they do in that one prison in Arizona.
