Well, here we are. I guess that it was destined to come to this.

A coffee-table sized touchscreen PC.

I don't know about you, but other than digital board games, I can't see why I would want anything like this. I don't use my personal tablet flat on a table and the idea of sharing even a very large one is... odd?

Other than the technological "oh wow" achievement, does anyone see a reason for this that I am missing?

  • 01.07.2013 1:15 PM PDT

I think it would be fun for board games nothing else.

The fact that it (and I am not sure how) will allow multiple users to simultaneously use multi-touch and gestures is intriguing to me. I don't know how they are defining "multiple users", whether this is running a per-user VM, or simultaneous separate user sessions, or it just means "a lot of different hands at once".

But it is intriguing as to "what they did to get it to work". But I can't see much appeal. Though it would clearly be a powerful machine (to allow for the multiple users) and can be setup as a standard desktop, if you can call a 27" touch screen "standard".

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

Lenovo seems to have forgotten about the limited success of the original Microsoft Surface.

Remember?

I remember. I remember that you couldn't put your coffee cup on the device that was clearly a coffee table.

Halo 3 > Reach

Dream Theater and Rush > All music

My opinion > Your Opinion

Interesting. Obviously it'd be useful for games and the social aspect, but when you think about it, there's nothing else a regular sized tablet can do that this would be somehow better at. And, it's $1700. Probably too pricey for most people.

no its legit, i used coordinates, set weapon timers the works.

It's about time this is here. MS had been working on the original Surface as a giant table. Things were demonstrated on the prototype a long time ago as restaurants having them for tables where you could order food and such from them.

I thought you could since I watched some early promo video that clearly showed coffee cups being placed on it.

NON FACET NOBIS CALCITRARE VESTRUM PERNĒ¢UM

If it was larger (something that could allow 3-4 users) it could be used for learning. So maybe such applications as group labs, art projects, film editing.

Hopefully Lenovo has fixed that glaring oversight.

I could maybe see these in busy building lobbies being used as a large info directory, but is that really enough to establish a market? Probably not. More to the point, I can see it being useful for all the things people said the original Surface was useful for, and we see how commercially viable that was . . .

Honestly, a decent PC with a Kinect and a large TV could do that right now, as long as someone would write a freaking application.

It would be easy and wouldn't even require a touch, just gestures and voice recognition.

I am very disappointed at how little innovation for common kiosk improvement has occurred since the Kinect came out. It is the right technology and device to make informational kiosks easy, helpful and fun to use.

The button placement is just terrible IMO (also who puts the name on the face of it?)

And just like that, kiosk-bombing would be born.
