Though I am very interested in Japan, I've never been there.

They're very polite people.
It would be wise to adapt to and respect their culture, and in return, they will respect you.

I was looking at the Japanese alphabet and my brain almost exploded. Looks like such a hard language.
And to think... I failed French miserably back in high school.

Are you talking about the phonetic alphabet or kanji? The phonetic alphabet it easy, Kanji is a pain in the rear.

He's right, Katakana and Hiragana are fine, but learning Kanji is a like a journey with no end.

Language looks so difficult.. and I only just looked at Hiragana.

I knew a teacher that lived there for 2 years but I forgot everything he told me about it cause it was about 3 years ago but My niece and one of my friends went as exchange students on separate trips and by seeing their pictures it looked pretty fun. I plan to visit Japan one day but I wouldn't live there.

Katakana and Hirigana are phonetic based alphabets.

Kanji is Chinese characters and their meanings.
A decent portion on Japanese Kanji

I think I get it. Give me a Japanese word. I wanna see if I can put the letter together to form the word.

I don't see the 'ga' in the alphabet. So how do you form arigatou?

Don't punch a British kid, the queen'll come after you.

Wow, Japan huh?

I hear it's very different from western culture in general, everything's very "efficient" and business-like I hear.

I think it depends on where exactly you are in Japan though..

Sounds like a great opportunity. Japan is a place I've always wanted to visit. The only traveling I've done is in Europe so I couldn't really offer any help, though. As you said, the culture shock would be pretty extreme, certainly greater than what one would experience in Europe, but after you get over it you'll probably have a great time.

Just felt like posting in this thread to express my jealousy.
