Only the unloved and unnatural hate.

I have a skype! Feel free to add me if you took the time to look in here xD cody.dwight.morgan

I've thought about this question for a while and it always puzzles me. I mean, it just seems like more trouble than just having one type of console IMO.

Can someone explain the logic behind this to me?

You will -blam!- bricks when you see what game it is! =)

The way television displays work I think is the reason for that.

Reagion locked consoles/games.

Basically if you by a game in England but try to play it on a USA console, it won't work because the game and console are region locked.

I had this problem back in the good ol' days of the PS2 and it meant I had to burn the games.

I like shorts. They're comfy and easy to wear.

That's certainly not the main reason. I have no difficulty playing PAL consoles on a Canadian TV.

1. Regional censorship. Some countries like China have regional censorship. Certain things are taboo, like skulls.

2. Marketing control. Some nations, have cheaper product then others. Games in Russia for instance, cost less then the US equivalent.

3. Demographic tarketing. Different countries like different things. For example, the japanese version of Neir has a scrawny protaganist. In Japan, strength is culturally symbolized not by appearance, but of will. The American/European version featured a buff, ripped protaganist, because in western culture, strength is represented by physical appearnce. Though the game didn't sell "well" it showed that Square Enix is listening to western concerns about scrawny 16 year olds being able to wield swords the size of a bus.

I originaly made an account on 07.27.2007 but I wanted to link my GT and made this account. Don't forget your passwords!

/\^/\^/\ (inb4edit)

I could buy a game in Russia for cheap (because of economic reasons) and then sell it in the USA for profit. That is why.

It's the little square on all your game containers that says NTSC (at least if you are in north america) means.

Here you go.

If you don't even know what region locking is then this thread makes no sense.

More specifically.

No, I meant explain what the TV has to do with anything, I know what RL is.

Do you like Green Eggs and Ham???

You can change it with some PowerISO mods, but that's against the law.

Hm, maybe the type of electrical current. Some countries may be using AC instead of DC. I really dont know the main reason.

Banned and proud of it.

If you can't play a game because it's region locked, you'll have to buy it again in the correct region. More money in the developer's pocket.

Different countries have different display technologies.

Example Australia uses Pal while America uses NTSC. And NTSC signal displayed on a Pal screen is black and white.

Also countries have different power supply systems, different classifications, different laws and all sorts of things.

心の中に弱い風が吹いています。

So you can spend more on consoles if you want to play an imported game. Luckily the PSP isn't region locked when it comes to games. However movies on it are a different story.

ALL HAIL GABEN

I believe it has something to do with North America using NTFS (NTFC?) and Europe and Asia using PAL.
