Sparkle Sparkle Sparkle!

About four days ago, a huge hangnail broke off of my big toe. Over the weekend, I've noticed it's been getting swollen. Today, I took off my socks and there's a small, but noticeable big bloody lump in the gap between the skin and nail, and the nail itself is deteriorating. I found small traces of fluid around the area.

What do?

And yeah, I tried Google. Nothing notable came up.

Get some penicillin/anti-biotics, go to a doctor/GP as soon as you can.

Dude why didn't you just get a napkin and dab some 2$ Hydrogen Peroxide on it?

It would of saved you a visit to the DOCTOR.

Put antibiotic ointment on it and see a doc.

Agreed. All the changes are good and add variety. Do we really want another Halo 3? Just running around with one gun and no armor abilities? It's good that 343 wants to try something new. Do we really want the same thing for three more games?

Blind luck always prevails.

Go and see a doctor if it persists.

The only practical advice I have is to regularly put it in warm water. My thumb got infected quite badly once and putting it in warm water seemed to help.

drain fluid.

wash in warm soapy water.
disinfect with either vodka if manly, or hydogen peroxide if not manly.

clean twice daily, do not wear toed shoes or socks so sandles or flipflops only.

keep bandaged prefably with gauze and medical tape, not bandaids.

replace bandage twice daily after cleaning and drying.

increase vitamin intake.

if all else fails go to docter where the will prescirbe strong antibiotic, give you a iodine disinfectant and charge you out the ass.

Alright then, just pick at an infected cut. Don't come crying here when you get Sepsis.

You need a doctor. They have the best way to clean out an infection. If it goes untreated you can die of blood poisoning

I'm not sure what you're looking for.

Just go to the doctor. He might give some creme or something.

Go to the hospital. I have had this kind of thing happen. It is probably a puss infection (if you like to chew you're nails, then its pretty obvious) or some bacteria got into the cut.

They will drain the area that has the fluid. You could do this yourself but its going to hurt, whereas the hospital will give you drugs to numb your foot while they drain it. After everything is drained, they will bandage the area and give you some temporary medication. This will probably include soaking area in water for 10 minutes for 3 times a day, re-bandaging area, take medication, etc.

But in short words, I would go get it check out as this is something that you shouldn't leave alone. In a few days it could get very bad. Like, the rest of your foot will be infected. But by now, the worst that could happen is that you will loose your toe nail, but it will just grow back in about 4-6 weeks.

EDIT: By the looks of the pics, it doesn't look very bad. But it wouldn't hurt to get it looked at.
