North Korea can't even properly feed its own soldiers. I'm seriously not sure if they have the resources, particularly food, to carry out an invasion of South Korea.
Who knows? What if this gives their soldiers the motivation to fight harder in hopes of attaining better resources from South Korea? Don't underestimate a starving predator.
EDIT: I highly doubt that China would even support North Korea due to its economic relationship with the United States. If it really all came down to it, China would have to ask themselves--who is a more valuable ally? The United States or North Korea? The answer is obviously the former due to their economic ties. That being said, I imagine that China would try as hard as it could to remain neutral throughout the whole thing.
