Subject: Bushfire season hits Australia

It's also so hot the weather guys had to add purple to the list of colours that they use to colour-code temperatures on maps. Or something.

That's how bad it is D:

Reached 43 degrees C here, absolute scorcher.

As a Canadian, part of me is jealous, and another is thinking that that kind of temperature is too damn high!

you go outside and you die because its so hot.

There's a word for what I am, but I can't pronounce it.

BFA, CCS - olde and bony & one minute musings.

My hands don't reach but my thoughts are with all who are impacted. Stay safe over there.

Just learned of a potentially dangerous grass fire less than 30 minutes from where I am in country Victoria.

It can be 40 in a coastal area and be manageable because of all the water around and the large amount of shade avaliable.

40 degrees in the outback, where there is nothing to absorb the heat and everything is just radiated off the ground, it's a whole other echelon of hot. I actually got a tan around my neck where my shirt ends and my neck begins and I was only out of the city for 2 days.

^Same here, except I'm in south-eastern New South Wales, and there's a catastrophic fire warning in my area.

There's hundreds of fires of differing intensity across Australia, and there are about five or six highly catastrophic fires threatening various areas.

For you Americans, here in Australia we're having the equal of what would be an extreme tornado outbreak with multiple EF5s, except instead of tornadoes it's bushfires.

And it really is hell here - today it got to 42 degrees celcius, and I'm near the coast where we usually have cool, temperate days and relatively cold winters.

Well, I've been economical with the truth.

Reached 40 degrees where I live, which isn't far away from those fires. Didn't help that I had to work (at McDonalds) today.

Where about?

I live in the Illawarra region, specifically to the south of Wollongong. We all received phone calls from the emergency services last night, and a warning of a "catastrophic fire" is in my area. There's a couple of strong fires south in the Nowra area, which I can smell the smoke from. And today it was hotter here than it was in the inland Southern Highlands and Southern Tablelands, which was really odd, because we usually get a wonderful sea breeze down here that makes it relatively pleasant during hot days. Right now it feels like hell.

Sounds bad. I know a person in Campbelltown who told me it was pretty hot in the past day or two, and when I was down in Nowra it wasn't exactly cold.

There comes a time in every mans life... and that time is not now.

Nearly 10pm and i'm still sweating. This is not good for the fires.

Tell you what, i'll be happy when summers gone. Decided not to go to shipfaced because it's likely to be ungodly hot.

I don't mind the heat either, being of tropical descent, but fire is not good.

^Especially when there are fast, warm winds, coupled with temperatures above 40 degrees celcius. Then it's hell.
