For all questions with answers unknown to you, the proper procedure is to assume the answer is peanut butter.

While that may be true, I'm just going to pretend otherwise.

...last four CoD games have just added in unnecessary gimmicks that make the game more frustrating, and ultimately boring.
CoD4 was the one that started that trend.

I came into this thread expecting you to be talking about the pre-CoD4 days, and now I'm sad...

I liked the previous CoD games too, but CoD4 had (mostly) balanced customization, and therefore individuality. The more recent games have just added unnecessary gimmicks. While earlier CoD games were very fun, that were very predictable because your weapons were chosen for you.

A competitive players main goal is to win.
A casuals main goal is to have fun regardless of whether that results in a win or loss.
It has nothing to do with individual skill or knowledge, it has to do with the reason you play.

CoD4 was brilliant game, I sort of hope it gets a remake on next gen consoles.

It also had the best killtimes out of Call of Duty games.

CoD 2 was better than CoD 4.

CoD 4 added unnecessary gimmicks like kill streaks, perks, weapon attachments and sprint.

I'll give you that it was somewhat gimmicky, but it also worked. What they've done with recent CoD games does not improve gameplay. They've added more options, but they don't balance each other out. Players are running around with the same exact classes because it's overpowered. The maps have also definitely been going downhill. CoD2 was fun, but lacked any sort of variety. The problem with the recent games is that they lack variety, but not because of a lack of customization. There's too much customization. Why would anyone use any of the other classes when this class is extremely overpowered?

Too much customization? In Black Ops II you can only have 10 items equipped in one class. I'm really glad they added this feature. The maps in Black Ops II are pretty decent in my opinion. If you are being killed by the same player with the same class then you should try using a strategy.

I'm not doing bad on it, but I don't enjoy it because every match goes exactly the same.

Submachine Gun with three attachments (that's a ridiculous feature)
Pistol
Ghost
Cold-Blooded
Tactical Mask
C4
Shock Grenade

That is what I see from literally half of the enemy team every game. The other three are always camping with an Assault Rifle aimed at the door.

Prestige Tokens were also a terrible idea. Most overpowered classes are now available at level 4, and there is no longer any incentive to level up. It's just boring now.

Yeah... I'm that cool.
Robot Academy. Kinda sorta the best group on here.

The M16 in CoD 4 is a one burst kill with stopping power and a RDS. Use it with steady aim and it'll often beat shotguns and SMGs at close range.

Every CoD game had weapons or perks that are better than others and most players obviously lean towards those. It's nothing new and has been there ever since create a class was introduced. The classes you listed aren't any different from the always prevalent M16 / AK47 or MP5 / AK-74 with bandolier / 3frag/stun, stopping power and dead silence/steady aim/extreme conditioning in CoD4. Every single CoD game has its classes that allow decent players to easily get great scores when they try, and CoD 4 isn't any different in that aspect.

This is a kind of dumb idea, but I'd like to see a Call of Duty anniversary game on next-gen consoles. A game that has the campaigns from CoD2, CoD4, and WaW, and also a multiplayer with modes for each respective game with all the maps and weapons, combined with a moshpit mode that has every map from each game and you can use the weapons and perks from each game.

You could be using a Thompson or M1 Garand on Bloc.

But you could still play it the way you wanted to and have fun with decent scores. That's what's lacking from CoD now. You either use an obviously overpowered class or you don't have fun because you're getting killed across the map by a Skorpion EVO. I would just pick a random gun and go with it in CoD4, but I still had fun and did good. My classes never change on MW2 through Black Ops 2. They just aren't as playable or as fun. Simpler is better. Black Ops 2 took a step forward (maybe technically backwards) by getting rid of Pro Perks. Then, they took three steps back by making 2 attachments standard and adding Wild Cards.

I loved CoD 1,2 and 3. I loved the new additions to CoD 4 but it started to get boring after WaW for me. I havn't bought a single CoD after that one they killed the fun for me.

Lol

there are far more variations than that.

personally i run two attachments, unless sg, then just one, BB, and 5-6 perks, with a black jack for all situations.

PDW +silencer+laser
Hardline+lightweight
scavenger
engineer+extreme conditioning

BB+BJ

I see a lot of different setups, but speed and SMG seems to be the most common.
