I'm trying to upload a video to youtube ATM and it currently says its gonna take around 3600 minutes to upload, which equates to almost 3 days and I really cba to wait that long for one video.

The file size is of the video is around 21GB, which equals 21000MB. Now going on a 1MB a second upload speed that would take 21000 seconds to render, which is 350 minutes or almost 6 hours.

Now 3600 minutes is just over 10x 350, so I worked out that the video is uploading at 0.1MB per second.

Is that correct?

What under god's green earth are you uploading that is 21 jigabytes?

Why don't you just take file size and divide it by estimated minutes?

21 Gb is 21504 Mb so.. 21504/3600 (Mb/min) = 5.97 Mb/min. So 0.09955555... so yes 0.1 Mb/sec.

Better of going on Speedtest.net and figuring out your internet speed.

You haven't considered that your internet speed will fluctuate up and down especially if your uploading wirelessly so its not always going to be that amount of time/speed, especially at night.

But yeah I calculate it as 0.1 MB/s

You rendered it wrong. Very wrong. A full length Blu-Ray movie with 5.1 surround sound is less space than that.

Might want to encode that to something else.

-blam!- son. Did you render it in 4K or something? Something is very wrong with what you did. A 7-minute video shouldn't be over 200mb, even if it were Blu-Ray quality.

All I did was set it as an uncompressed Avi file...

Sony Vegas has a lot of options for rendering videos, it can be messy and complicated if you don't know what you're doing. Look up some guides on Youtube or Google for proper settings to render videos. I haven't used Vegas in a while so I can't remember off the top of my head what format/settings to use. Like the other dude said, it should really only be around 200mb.

I have to render it in Avi because all the other options are either just audio or crash vegas while it renders and uncompressed is the only Avi type that isn't crap quality. I don't really have much choice.

There's a lot more to setting than just just what video format (AVI, MPEG, WMV etc.), you can adjust the the FPS, bit rate, compression and more.

You don't have the option to encode in say, h.264?

  • 01.08.2013 11:09 AM PDT

-I was here

sounds like you need more upload speed.

I worked out an easy fix, I'm just gonna re-render it in Windows movie maker. Lower file size but nearly the same quality.

The file size is of the video is around 21GB, which equals 21000MB if you take the extra 24MB per GB out the of equation for simplicity.
Haha, no... a GB is exactly 1 billion bytes. You are thinking of a GiB, or gibibyte, which is 1,073,741,824 bytes, or 1,024 MiB.

Here's a handy conversion table.
