You know Ice, i love your theories, and i know youve defintly done your research. I myslef am christian, but i dont think its fair to those of other religions for Halo to suddenly become biblical. I do agree Halo has a lot of biblical refrences, but i honetsly dont think that Halo 3 will contain any christian material (besides the Flood, and Ark refrences). Not everyone on this earth is christian, and we need to respect that.
i agree

Whether or not everybody in the world is a Christian, bungie can still make the game however they damn well please.

Putting Biblical references in the games, including halo 3, wouldn't and probably couldn't disrespect others' religions.
Some of this stuff is so hidden you have to want to find it. Unless you find a thread like this.

Respecting somebody else's religion doesn't mean shutting up about your own. It just mean you do not belittle theirs.
What halo is isn't disrespectful as far as I have seen.

Yeah, we know that the Ark activates them, but we dont know if it really protects them from it. I wish everyone would quit assuming that.

Yes, but it would be unwise for Bungie to incorporate a single religion into Halo 3 and leave all the others out. Some would be offended by that and Bungie may lose some fans. I never said for us to shut up about our own. I like your theories, and i agree Halo has plenty of biblical refrences, but i dont think any christian material should be added. Thats just my opinion, and im not flamming you in any way.

I know you're not flaming me, but I could care less if you were.

I seriously doubt... no "doubt" isn't even the right word.
Look, halo: CE and Halo 2 both had a ton of references to the Bible. Tons.
Halo 2 was like a retelling of Daniel 11.

Was anyone offended?
Well, I remember a Jewish guy posted a week after halo 2 came out and he was offended by the garb of the prophets.

If people play any of the halo games and are immediately offended by the storyline, then they OBVIOUSLY have a deep, or at least cursory knowledge of the Bible.

1) I'm not mad.

2) define what you mean "related". Bungie put Biblical allegories in there deliberately.

3) Actually, there are quite a few games that deal in the scriptural arena. Halo isn't the first. Ever heard of Tiberian Sun? How about Freelancer?
At any rate, so what if most other games don't "focus on religion"? Does that mean halo can't?

Well, if im not mistaken (which i might be) your saying that we might see God (or some form of him) in Halo 3? Well if that was the case, then i can see some people being deeply offended. If your not saying that, if your saying that no christian material will be directly in the storyline, but be refrenced instead, then I totally agree. I may have misread your begining post, if so i apologize.

No, "something like Him" refers to the Sentient/Sapient nature of His character. The I AM.

There are characters/themes in halo that borrow pieces, select parts from Biblical characters and themes, but not them in their entirely.

I never said God in His entirety would come out of the Ark in halo.
I'm saying a reflection of His Sapient nature would be released by it.

Example:
The master chief represents Christ in only select ways, the Arbiter also represents Christ at a time, but in a way that the chief does not.

The master chief borrows Christ's originality of all copied things of salvation, the arbiter acts like Christ when he becomes a scapegoat for the crimes of others.

i see a lot of people scrutinizing your theory, and it makes them sound a bit too worried. like if halo 3 is going to be religious and of the christian faith. well first of all, halo has barley an references to the bible as it is, and if someone like yourself wants to state that. then by all means you have a right to.
Second of all, if people are uncomfratable with halo having these references, then they have a right to say so, but not in a way to say bungie shouldnt have. its bungies game they can do with it what they want. all the halo games have had some sort of religeous aspect. so what? its a game and its awsome. the campain storyline shouldnt ruin opinion on the value of the game

All right, fair enough.

But if anyone says that there are "barely any connections", I dare them to read this.

This is part of the reason I don't look forward to Halo 3...too much Christianity. Not everybody in the whole damn world is a Christian.

At the end we will...

Hmm...I kind of suspected that this post would bring about controversey, but I had no idea that all this would happen.

Well since this is a forum, a place to voice your opinion, I think I shall do just that.

There is Biblical allegory in Halo. There is strong Biblical allegory in Halo. The term "halo" is a Christian term. To those who are Christians: search for it, and ponder on it, and let it enrich your life, and remind you even in recreation of the truths that it alludes to. To non-Christians: if it offends you that this game has Biblical allegory, take heart in two things. 1) It has many, many other sources of allusion in the game. From literature to mythology and everything in between, so Christianity is not the only focus. There is even some other religions depending on what you believe in relation to Buddhism and reincarnation. And 2) Everything has a Christian element and application to it if you look hard enough, intended or otherwise. No one cried from the mountaintops that Frodo and Aragorn typified the person of Christ when watching the Two Towers. Just enjoy the game (or movie) for what it is! I didn't think of the Hindu themes while I was watching Matrix Revolutions. I just enjoyed two guys destroying a building with each other.

So there is my $0.02.

and mosat games don't focus on religion

Well, most games don't focus on freedom and human nature either, but those are pretty obvious themes in Marathon, an earlier Bungie game.

Basically, what I'm saying is, "This is Bungie, don't bother talking about other games by other companies." Just look at what Jason Jones said when talking about really complex stories:
Basically we wanted something that could grab you. You can play Pathways without really knowing what the plot is at all, and with the complex plot you really couldn't do that. You would have really had to get into the plot, and we didn't want to force people to do that because a lot of people don't want to. It was a really good story, at least I think it was because I wrote it, but I think it would have been burdensome. But in the long run, that's the kind of game I'm much more interested in writing.

That, and everything in the Marathon series, is pretty much the best actual proof you can get (besides that quote where they directly talk about Halo being a biblical allegory).

Bungie can make the story any way they see fit. A STORY. If other religions aside from Christianity can't respect a game's story for what it is, maybe they don't belong playing the game.
