Okay, here is my theory: as far as I'm concerned, there are no religious links to the Halo series. I already have my proof:

1--The thing in the trailer--yeah, it's not the ark. The ark activates the rings--FACT, because 343 Guilty Spark said this in Halo 2. Therefore, if the thing in the trailer activated the rings (thus destroying sentient life), why would MC stand on a cliff and watch it happen ESPECIALLY since it's one third through the game? Therefore, it bears no resemblance to earthquakes and storms surrounding the ark in the bible.
Not to mention, a structure like in the trailer would cause an earthquake. Why--all of the mechanisms underground working to open it. It has nothing to do with the ark being "magical."

2--There are opposing messages in the Halo storyline. Like in Halo 2; the prophets having blind faith in a fictional deity, thus leading the covenant army into civil war. Believing that the rings are salvation, when really they are destruction. Doesn't that run CONTRARY to the bible?

3--Cortana. According to the bible, nothing is stronger than god. Well, according to Cortana, I have defied gods and demons.

I don't mean to be offensive, but have you hear of Noah and his people (the Forerunners) building the Ark (the Ark mentioned in Halo 2) to escape the Flood (The Flood, the parasties)?

Yes, he has. You think he would make this post without knowing? He couldnt possibly not know, he has read about 400 threads with that connection detialed in them, as have i. I bet half the people on this forum are now more educated in the bible then Halo 3.

I am glad you posted this, i am really getting tired of all this nonsense. It is just ways for people to keep themselves busy while they have to "endure" the wait for Halo 3. I really feel we should just be patient, not make assumptions, and just play what bungie gives us.

If we get our hopes too high, we are bound to get them crushed (i.e. Halo 2)

If you don't like it, then why do you click on the thread anyway?...let alone, read it.
Stop complaining, there's really no need for it.

How do you know it is activating? Maybe it is, um, opening? Hm...I wonder...opening...

Wow, maybe you should actually read the people's theories before you say how bad they are. I know at least mine perfectly explain that so that it makes complete and utter sense.

3--Cortana. According to the bible, nothing is stronger than god. Well, according to Cortana,
I have defied gods and demons.

That could be taken different ways. Take this one: she represents Christ, like I said, and hasn't defied God, but she has defied gods, you know, like she said. Christ defied plenty of gods, all of them false though.

In the end, where do all these connections get us? No where, thats where.

You realize you do all this research and connect the bible to Halo so intricately, and all you get is either a flame or a "Nice, i agree".

Not trying to flame, but ya ever heard of the devil, the angel who led a rebellion against god and got his ass kicked out? Well, defied =/= stronger than, it = gone against.

Haha, isn't that the nature of a forum? And also- isn't it more pointless to go around telling everyone how pointless it is?

IM A DAMN CHRISTIAN! I am a believer. I just feel it is stupid to relate a VIDEO GAME to a religious book. The bible has litterally hundreds of themes in it that can be connected to ANY plot or storyline. Halo is no different.

Please, dont instantly assume you know someones faith just from some letters on a screen.

Ya know how I was talking about how narrow-minded and strict my church is? Yeah, well this guy seems to be a member.

Hm... narrowminded eh? I am anything but narrowminded. I have read the posts, i have read the theories. The similarities are pronounced. But the fact is, ALOT of things can be compared to the bible. Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Frankenstien all have similarites.

You cant really believe that Halo has the only storyline that is very similar to the bible.

[edit] Hm... like 1 curse word means i curse day and night. You really are making assumptions. I hate to curse, but i do so because it is the only way i can get anyones attention.

Tolkien said he wrote the LOTR to represent the bible. The same as others such as the writer of Narnia. So shut up.
Don't be mad because they use scripture to be the backbone of their stories.

I see what you mean that some people take it too far, but I also think you're stating what a lot of people know already. Haha, or at least I hope they do. Many things can be connected to all kinds of other literature. The problem is, this is a Halo 3 forum, and it's where people come to connect Halo 3 to other things, be it literature, or Greek mythology, or a movie, or the Bible. Or they could talk about cool new features, or ideas for weapons. That's kind of what this place is for.

And dudes, this guy isn't against the Bible- I'm not really sure what he's against, but he's not against that. I think he's just stating that people go a little overboard with the biblical allegories. They are there, sure, but they're also in popular culture, Superman Returns, LOTR, Harry Potter, and wherever else you'd care to look.

I could be technical and say they arent connecting halo 3, but the previous halo games and halo novels, but that would be borderline -blam!-.

I just feel, as i have said in another thread, Halo should be kept an original story. If we mix it and connect it to the bible, it will cease to be halo, and become just a reiteration of the bible.

I dont want that to happen, i want halo to be halo, nothing more or less. I feel a story is its own, and should not be included in anything outside of its own universe.

Tolkien was originally aadament that LoTR was not Biblical allegory (although it plainly is). And that author would be C.S. Lewis, who actually did make Narnia an direct allegory.

ure missin the point man halo story is basically the bible it always was

How is it "basically" the Bible? I don't recall a character in the Bible that runs around with plasma weapons (or even a sword) killing religious aliens. I understand that there are themes and symbols, but to say that it's a retelling of the Bible is a little ludicrous.
