I like all the old maps from halo 1 and halo 2 and think it would be cool if all of themo were on halo 3, put them in a old maps category or something most would be happy just to play them who cares if they are a little unbalanced or have worse graphics, just put them in custom only games for godsakes! Does anyone know why bungie seems so against this idea?

for starters you obviosly don't even have a drop of programing experience because the maps use completly different graphics engines to the new ones so they would all have to be re made to use the new graphics engines that the new guns a people are built in.
if it was as easy as you make it out to be every old game would be re made every year with the best graphics engine but it's alot harder then you make it out to be.

The map needs to be able to react to certain actions that take place in it. Certain commands, triggers, and reactions will need to be change between the games. Halo 3 will probably not have exactly the same physics as Halo or Halo 2.

OMFG you don't have a clue how programing works do you , you would have to re program the old maps nearly from scratch for the new people and guns to be able to interact and move in the level

no i mean old map old weapons old physics old everything just a halo 1/ halo 2 multiplayer modes godang now it seems stupid.....when i say it outloud...........i will go cry in my corner now and cut myself.........

they could put in old maps in H2....ya theyd have to re-do all of them but that isnt that big of a chore...they arent creating new ones from the ground up, remember...they just have to copy the details and fit them to the H2 engine.....i think the main reason is they will all be available in H3...thats an easy feather in the cap so to speak...we all would like to see the old maps, or at least indifferent to the idea...so why wouldnt they use that as a feature to help make H3 more betterly...instead of us saying meh, we playd all the old maps in H2 allready???

A Guide to Networking, Matchmaking, and Host in Halo (HBO mirror)

Bungie Friends and Family invitee, and sender of "random emails" about networking.

The only thing from the map that might be able to be reused is the geometry. The lighting would have to be completely redone. The textures would have to be redone (blurry 2 pixel high writing isn't acceptable on the 360 really) in much higher resolution. The coding would be completely different, weapons might function differently and need to be moved.

In short, pretty much everything would have to be redone, so there's no point reincluding it unless it's outstanding.

ok yea. so basically youre saying they should put Halo 2 into Halo 3.

the 360 is a beast,,,i doubt any of us truly understand its power.....my prediction is they will take the most popular maps from H2, and the most comonly requested maps from CE and put them in H3 with all the upgrades for the 360 graphical capabilitys, but the bulk of H3s maps will be new.........XBLMP?

Why mess with new maps for Halo 2 when they can be working on Halo 3?

Really hes not to far from the truth. If they wanted them to look really -blam!- (and probably be really glitchy) they could extract the old bsp and just put it in the new game. All that would be required after that is the re-linking of all vehicles and weapons to their proper locations.

All the halo games are based on a tag system so its pretty easy to do whatever you want with the game engine. People to Halo 2 maps and models and put them in Halo CE a long time ago.

It's not THAT hard, really. They just need to convert the old maps' BSP and after that, it's just simply texture work. Just because they don't have the same engines doesn't mean it would be impossible to do, it's jsut that the detail maps and opacity maps are done differently.
