In Halo and in Halo 2, human fighter jets were only seen for about half a second at a time. The fighters I am talking about sre longsword fighters. They're talked about in the books, but never described. In the end of Halo 2 MC is seen piloting a forunner ship towards Earth. What if Bungie made the first level f Halo 3 starting with an aerial combat scene in which MC is piloting that ship into a human space port? He gets in, and they do the start-up tutorial with movements and actions. Then the player moves into an area with a squad of Longsword fighters and their UNSC pilots. MC then hears on his intercom "Get in one of those fighters, Chief, we're goin' for a joy ride!" (or something like that). Then you get in and a pop up comes and tells you the controls. (All manual now) Then you fly off with the other fighters. You in front. You have to fight through the naval battle above Earth until you can get close enough to the atmosphere to land on a freighter. Then you are loaded onto a pelican with a squad of ODSTs. This should be the first mission in aerial combat. There should much more of these, some with the covanent. I am not talking about specific aerial battles. In ground batles as well, there should just be longsword fighters parked at the back lines. You know, just like banshees are. Longsword fighters should be an addition to the field vehicles like the ghost, scorpian, warthog, etc. Aerial combat would be good for online play as well. But bungie should not put too much detial to aerial combat. There should be much more ground combat, or it would change the game in a negative way.

There is one problem with the whole idea...The MC is not piloting the ship, he's riding on the outside.

Anyways, despite that he must also fight through the hordes of covenant on the ship to get to the control deck. Its not like he got on and then just walked to the pilots chair.

besides, why would the MC risk more human lives by running the ship into a human station?

To ride, he would have to kill everyone in his way (Truth and a bunch of Brutes) That would be pretty early in the game if you kill Truth.

aerial combat would be sick! It would definitely be a great addition to both campaign and multiplayer. I hope Bungie adds something like that

Then were no longer playing halo are we. its meant to be fun and would just be a waste of time flying a longsword
. why does the chiefs need to kill fighter pilots when he could kill about 100 times more ground troops

The ignorant work for profit, the wise work for the benefit of the world.

I could see using a pelican or other type of dropship multiplayer, but the chief is INFANTRY why would he need an air-vehicle of any sort to assist him in surface-to-surface fighting?

The MC wasn't flying the forerunner ship. He was just hitching a ride.

Dam good thinking its sounds like it could work, heck it would be alot of fun that for sure I could rack up a few good kills with those in the game not to mention whether bungie should put Seprahs (Covenant Fighters) into the mix that would be even better.

Flying the Longsword would turn it into SWB2. You should just stick to manning guns on Human Carriers and jumping out of hangers. =D

Why do the June 2006 jockies post these things. There have been numerous posts on this. They have all but failed.

i think he will A: fight his way to the control room and fight, maybe kill truth. then, he will either blow the ship up or land it on earth.
B: jump out of the ship, land on a human ship.

Just to remind everyone that the MC is qualified to pilot any UNSC air/space craft, says it in the books don't remember which one tho. Probably Fall of Reach.

you're naut cookin'

Hahaha. Have you played the end of Halo: CE?

That ship there is a Longsword Fighter. They're Jets.

Not single person flying craft like Banshees. I think it would be cool, if you got a ride in one, instead of flying it yourself. In some sort of Half Life 2-esque real time cinematics.

That was one dissappointment with Halo 2. I was looking forward to big Banshee fights in multiplayer with four to six banshees in the air taking each other on.
