Considering that Bungie actually is quelching the flame of cheating, I'm sure Halo 3 won't have cheating. I mean look at Halo 2. Cheating is diminishing, Bungie found a way to beat them. Even though it took them a while... well they had to make Halo 3 and are still perfecting it. But they managed to slow cheaters down.
Your version of Halo 2 must be different to mine. I suppose modding is on the decline but network bridging and stand-by are rampant... and I mean rampant.
I've seen some really foolish comments on this thread.
Servers would stop cheating almost totally. Also, modding isn't likely to be around at the beginning for the simple reason that they'll be no maps stored on the harddrive at launch.
Bungie has to deal with its cheating issue, alongside other equally important issues, if they want their game to fulfill the aspirations they will no doubt have for it. Halo 2, in the higher ranked matchmaking gametypes, is virtually unplayable for the honest gamer.
I sit here utterly dumbfounded when I see people saying they don't encounter much cheating any more. Honestly, it's like they must be inhabiting some alternate Halo universe!!! If I go into Team Slayer I get cheated. It's that simple.
Halo 2 is only fun for me with my UK friends in custom games. I have given up on matchmaking....particularly ranked....forever. If Halo 3 doesn't at least severely improve on these important things....I will play the campaign and then sell it. Not because I still wouldn't love the game, even in custom with friends, but because I will be so disappointed in Bungie.
I'm not putting up with the crap I've put up with on Halo 2 again. It'll either be a good online experience (no matter how cool the game)... or it will not. If it's not.... it's gone. I don't care how anticipated it might be... what does it matter if you can't play the thing fairly.
That said..... I have faith in em :-)
