The assault rifle's more fun to use, and it actually specializes in something. The battle rifle is good at everything, but not great at anything.

go to thisspartanlife.com to see another great machinima. I'm a member myself.

Battle rife because it has a scope and they made something like the assult rifle, it's called the SMG and you can duel weild them.

OMG, how many times do rational people have to tell you this.

Halo 1
AR = Short to medium range spam gun (filling close combat role)

Pistol = Medium to long range accuracy gun (filling medium to long range role)

Halo 2
SMG = Short to medium range spam gun (Filling close combat role)

BR = Medium to long range accuracy gun (filling medium to long range gun)

Now for the people who can't seem to comprehend this let me put this into terms that perhaps you can follow. In each of the games of halo so far they have maintaned a level of weapon equivilence from game to game, for halo 2 the BR took the place of the pistol as the long range weapon that was not quite a sniper, while the SMG took the place of the AR as the medium range close combat spammer.

What I am trying to say is that even if the AR is put into halo 3 it most likely would take the role (and thus replace or mork equivilently with..) the SMG, as the two are comparable close combat spammers. If the BR is not in halo 3 then it will be replaced by a comparable medium to long range accuracy weapon.

There is no competition as to which is better as they fit different roles and are meant to work side by side with the BR for long range and the AR for short range.

There I think this has been said enough but apparently some people such as this poster is still paranoid about the AR (perhaps they never played halo 1 so they have no idea what role it fills), you getting jumpyabout the BR being replaced by the AR (incompatible role switch) makes as much sense as if you thought the rocket launcher was being replaced by a new machine gun. I suppose if you heard there was a new weapon you would instantly make some random connection as to how one will replace another from another entirely different weapon type, or perhaps if you heard there was a new sniper you may pull some complete BS theory that the sword is being replaced by it. Although the two weapon classes would clearly not interfere e=with each other in replacement to fill a role on the battlefield.

As we know from the books the battle rifle was only prototype weapon. so i expect that they combined the battle rifles accuacy with the assault rifles bullet hoseness and made the MA5A.

This is all fine and great except for one little thing: the SMG sucks donkeydick!

My thoughts precisely, that'd be an ideal situation.

If I had to choose one or the other, AR all the way, it's just so much cooler.

Slightly off-topic here, but I preferred the BR with semi-auto rather than burst fire, regardless of whether or not you were zoomed in. My reasons? Because it was cooler, by a long way, than the burst fire, the ammo capacity of the gun would actually have been decent (firing 3 shots for every press of the trigger eats up your ammo in campaign to the point of it being almost useless after 2 minutes) and it would take more skill to score a headshot, since you can fire and sweep the cross-hair across the head area of an enemy and be basically guaranteed to hit the head at least once. Which is why i prefer Carbine's in SWAT gametypes, it takes that little bit more care in aiming.

If the BR was semi-auto in Halo 3, the AR returned exactly as it was before, and the SMG was binned, that would be aaaaaaaaaaaaawesome. But thats just me ^_^
