I couldn't agree more. The marines should be much more serious. When I am playing Halo it is the epic story of the last Spartan (DO NOT START WITH THE -MORE SPARTANS IN HALO BECAUSE OF THE BOOKS- THING!!) fighting with the remaining earth forces whether it be on Earth or on a Halo, in an epic struggle for survival against the covenant juggernaut, until the flood, a darker enemy that is feared even by the covenant, emerges, which you have to save the entire universe from. I have never understoood all of the jokes in it. That was the one thing I liked about the E3 demo -> The general atmosphere and mood set by the wounded marines, with the lines like "No Tags", "Seems like the brass do give a -blam!-", "Two more behind that (dont remember word), im runnin low man" or "Come on, Come on, Come on!!" So they should do what real soldiers would do in that situation.
A) Help the wounded
B) Point out the enemy
C) Report things like ammo count, etc (Im running low, get me another clip *sees marine dive from one cover to another throwing a final clip of ammunition which the marine recieves in time to fight off a charging elite*
D) The occasional joke is fine, but a more serious mood would be much more emersive
So...sure my hopes are a bit high...but it would make a great game with the "darker mood" that Bungie has told us will be in this game.
They do that in Halo. If a Marine is near death, he'll charge and yell senselessly at the enemy.
The elites do that, not the marines (from what I have seen).
