The real problem is that you are hanging out in The Flood.

Hmm...

I am also tired of seeing someone quoting you and just posting your quote with out saying one thing...It is just a quote and submit...That is not needed...if you can't help the situation with your own answer...don't steal others or re-post other(s).

That is exactly what the quote pyramid was (just a bit more excessive). But anyway, that is aside from the point. I go to The Flood because I like off-topic discussions. It's my personal preference. I may be missing something, but I fail to see how that is the "real" problem. I have been irritated with the gargantuan amount of senseless topics contaminating The Flood, and I know that Bungie is capable of "cleaning" the forum by posting stricter rules and issuing warnings easier.... It is a big problem, and I know the moderators are capable of fixing it.

Agreed...all of the copy cat threads, and semi-blogs about "I like this/that" need to go...Where's Stosh...he did a good job when the newer Blog rules were around, but now he has vanished from The Flood. Also, Shishka had returned...so I figure that things will change real quick.

We must not be on the flood at the same time or something. I still visit that forum many many times per day.

Well maybe if I could hang out with you more on Halo 2...I might be able to see for myself.

Well the thing is,some people are way to busy, way to lazy or like to spam like that.I actually do it alot, but sometimes it's easier to post a quick one liner in a neat little package than dragging it on...It can be a real eye reliever...

Well, if it isn't something that contribute to the conversation...then it doesn't need to be posted in my opinion. Just like people who quote, and submit other people's answers...without confirming/denying their position on the situation.

A perfect example of why the rule needs to be enforced.

Another prime example.

Nothing wrong with those. Just because you don't like someone's grammar or their approach, it doesn't mean a thread needs to be locked. Like stosh already stated, the "one line rule" is not a rule since there can be very good conversations started with a simple question. The real rule is "no stupid threads", which just falls under the category of spam. Are those two borderline? Yes, I'll completely admit that.

And since my name was brought up, I feel as though I must "defend" myself. While I'm on, you don't even see a majority of the stupid threads created in The Flood. I delete on sight, not lock. I'd say I delete at least 10 threads a day, and I'm on during the slow period. If I were on in the afternoons I'd be able to get more, but I do have a life outside of Bungie.net.

The guy could have at least posted if he had seen the movie, or if he was wondering if he should see it. And it is being discussed here, a mere two pages back. And with the age thread, it is a completely re-used and un-originol topic, and I'm sure he'd be able to find it a few pages back. And he could have posted why he was curious to know our age, or something like that.

Without a search feature, I don't believe we can expect people to look for a thread that is a few pages back. I'd lock it if it were on the first page or if it were noted in a sticky somewhere, but it isn't.

How do these threads hurt you? I mean, The Flood has never been a haven for intelligent discussions that haven't taken place before. If you wish to have an excellent discussion in The Flood, create an original thread and hope people will actually reply to it.

I guess so. But once again, he could have posted why he was interested on our opinions on the movie.

It gets tiresome seeing the same threads over and over again, getting replies, while the truly interesting threads are getting drowned out by the same (usually) boring repeat threads. If I were to try and create an interesting thread, it would get shot down pretty quick.

I could create a thread of interest to myself, but if it is of no interest (or little interest) to others, then yes, it will get "shot down". With the exception of spamming/flooding, the condition and "quality" of any fourm's threads is a direct reflection of the interest and participation of the people using that forum. It's impossible to separate the two.

Ah. So according to the Flood, this thread is more interesting then, say, this thread? That really does not seem right.

If a member is unhappy with the overall content of a forum, then they can either do their part to "improve" that content, they can look to other forums, or they can join in on what is being discussed.

Quite hard to "improve" the content.

It doesn't seem right to you, but apparently it seems right to the majority of the people in The Flood. And that is the problem, if I start locking all of the threads to satisfy the "few", I have to deal with the complaining of the "many". Hell, you can't even imagine all of the crap I'm getting for being more strict in The Classifieds. And that's The Classifieds!

It's hard to argue with the results though. One got more traffic than the other. Now we each can look at make our own personal judgments as to which is more interesting or valuable to us, but people taking the time to reply are people who are also saying what interests them.

Unfortunately, yes.

Hard? Sure.

Impossible? Not necessarily. But it could be an uphill climb.

Making and finding threads that are of interest to you is a personal quest. Replying in them, encouraging their growth and continuation, it's all that any member can do. We're each a single member in a sea of others. Every person deserves (within reasonable limits) to do what is of interest to them.

There's no way to make any of our forums perfect in the eyes on one person, they are a group effort and as such will always have variety, diversity and exceptions.

Ah. Yes, I suppose so. Interesting way to look at it. But of course, it seems to me like the average member likes the content that is there already. Which is unfortunate for certain people.

It seems that in some threads, it is only a few members replying to the thread and keeping it alive though. And it is usually spam like "*throws shovel*" But I suppose that is not going to change in the Flood anytime soon.

Here's a simple solution:
Don't reply to the thread.

Strange evolution how people have come to believe
That we are it's greatest achievement
We're barely, we're just a collection of cells
Overrating themselves

*throws shovel*

Anyway, when I think of The Flood, I think of a gathering place for everyone who couldn't stay on topic in the other forums. It reminds me of being in the pre-game lobby with 16 people trying to decide which custom game we should play next.

Oh no you didn't....you did not just use my own thing against me.

Anyways, Jellybug...I know you enjoy smart off-topic discussions, and there are many groups for that. The Time Lounge, for example, but I think that place is almost dead.
You can always come to the SCA :D. You can have a wits battle with the shiv master. He is very intelligent...and witty.

Maybe Bungie will make an update containes a terrible flaw and causes you xbox to explode leaving nothing but a black outline where it used to be.

Shhhhhh. That one is still in development.

I hear the best it can manage right now is a small fire. Exploding hardware may sound easy, but they're really hard to code.
