I have a NVIDIA GeForceFX 5200. And I have a NVIDIA GeForce 440 (or something) on another computer, but the older one displays better graphics. Why!? Does the monitor have something to do with it? Please help me.

the monitor could have something to do with it, yes, firstly I'd like to say the 5200 is a bad card. it's a budget card, expect budget quality. the geforce 440 although it's old, it was a good card. however the 5200 ought to be better coz it has support for newer gfx modes... that's odd. TFT's are better than CRT's maybe that's an issue? try checking gfx options.

The comp with the 5200, has a ViewSonic, 19" flatscreen CRT. The other one has a standard 19" CRT.

BTW, what do you mean "gfx"?

If the computer with the 5200 is connected to the ViewSonic 19' Flatescreen CRT, then that means the 5200 is the suckier card then the MX400.

gfx is short-hand for Graphics. CRT monitors are analogue and therefore subject to distortion from age or over-use. Bigger monitors especially. TFT's are digital so the picture stays perfect. However, if your two monitors are more or less the same, I'm not sure what to suggest, use whichever card looks and works best. Simple as that really.

I would have to go with a diffrent Video Card, because my friend has even an old montior, and he has a Radeon 9800 Pro like me, and both of ours run good. I would suggest going with an ATi card.

And to add to the "going with an ATi card", you should save the money instead and get the X800 Pro since they're going cheaper. And if you want hardcore stuff, go with the Geforce 6800 Ultra or the Radeon X800 XT.

I've got the GForce 4 440 MX and it works just fine for me....since I updated my drivers all my games look better actually.
As far as it being monitors, it's just resolution wise, if you wanna go 1600 by something...you'd need a really good monitor.
My graphics weren't all that great either...until I updated my drivers, so that just could be the problem...just do a driver update...

lol, silly n00b, the mx 440 cant display shadows or specular, and it a pretty bad card, i used to have one and would often be running a round on halo (on MIN settins) and get under 10fps, often under 5fps, now i have a fx5900 golden sample, and i can easily stay above 35fps on max settings

(and ive only got a 1.4ghz cpu)

Halo PC is mostly graphic dependant but having a fast CPU does help the game along with an extra 512 DDR ram. Used to have a Radeon 9800 XT and I can easily play the game at 1152x864.

dude, you are a noob. the mx 440 is SO out of date now. and you've got 2.4 gigs? do you know what of? probably not. a 2.4 GHz Central Processing Unit perhaps? 512 Megabytes of Double Data Rate Secure Digital Random Access Memory perhaps? 1024x768 resolution hmm. and poor old me has to make do with 1280x1024, but feel sorry for the poor b*stards who are stuck with 1600x1200! I mean, these noobs just don't understand computers in the same was we do, eh? You are aware that a 2.4GHz CPU isn't actually that fast, aren't you? Considering the industry standard is now set at about 3GHz, tops at about 3.8... and that's before I even get started on 64-bit chips. Advanced Micro Devices -who? n00b.

fast enough to run this game......wow this place is full of flamers and kids lol
And yes....2.4 gigs...what else did you think I was talking about? My Hard Drive? lol
Yes I do know computers...and I never did say that mine was the best, so instead of acting smart, try acting your age next time. I never said I had the best...I was just saying that at what I have I could run it just fine since this topic WAS about some guy having video card trouble...all I suggested was to update his drivers you knob!

Ok...so I need a new vidio card right?

I have an MX 440 on the other comp and it runs better than the one im using now which is the GeForce FX 5200...yeah...its probably the monitor...

Do you guys suggest that I try switching the monitors around?

BTW, I have Roadrunner internet. I'm pretty sure that there is something better out there but im not sure what. I just need some company names. Thanx

Choose your internet provider by speed, not by name. 256kbps braodband is about the minimum you want really. And yes, neither the 5200 or 440 are directx 9 cards, so neither will make Halo look as good as it can do. So sva eup, man. I recomend ATi 9600XT or nVidia 5600 series

if you want a good card you can get a 9600 xt from http://www.mwave.com for about 140 bucks.....its a kick ass card, I have an Athlon xp +2400 at 2 gigs with 512 pc 3200 ram with a 9600 xt, 4.7 catalyst drivers and direct x 9c and I am running halo at an average of about 70 to 100 fps per second, in heavy battles it goes down to about 32 fps like a 16 person battle on the map Longest.... if it goes any lower then either your cpu sucks or you need more ram for some reason.
