With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.
Yeah, I've considered the confidentiality of the possible Spartan IIIs... but I thought that it would make more sense if they were made public, since it'd be a morale boost (which is very much needed, since even mighty Reach fell...).
But, I'll point something out: The Covenant has to have someone on the inside for them to know so much about the Spartan IIs. In The Flood, its stated that they know about the Spartans having training since a very young age, and that they are augmented and what-not (everything that happened before they were put into their first mission (to capture Colonel Watts) is supposed to be utterly secret, since Cortana had to infiltrate Dr. Halsey's secret files to learn about that particular part of their past (everything before the first mission, as well as specifics on the augmentation project)). Also, in The Flood, there are several statements made by the Covenant that say, "our sources." Methinks someone is a traitor.... And with all the controversy regarding the topic, I think Ackerson is that traitor. Think about it:
Ackerson did not want to be on the front lines, whereas any self-loving human wouldn't be that persistant to stay off the lines when the survival of the entire race is at stake... Also, when Ackerson got off the front lines, he moved into politics and secretive ONI ops, which doesn't really do much for the war (I'm not necessarily saying ONI doesn't do much for the war, but its mainly the UNSC that is doing the fighting, and one more additional person to ONI, a person who is said to be talented at fighting the Covenant (ship-based, said in TFoR), would actually hurt the war effort a little, in my oppinion). Also, there is the whole thing about the discovered coordinates that don't point to any human-occupied space, which were found in Ackerson's secret databanks. Furthermore, traitors are not uncommon. There were two in The Flood. Finally, Ackerson wanted to cover up what was going on at Reach after it fell. He objected to Lt. Wagner going back to Reach to survey the aftermath, and pointed out, rather overinsistantly and sadistically, that everything there was "dead, dead, dead."
