Jimmy! Jimmy...i totally agree with you. Mpst people who play the campaign have read the books, the people who havent read the books are the people who just by the game for multiplayer. I agree with you.

You're just making stuff up. Stop it. You have no idea what population of Halo gameplayers have read the books, and what mode they prefer to play. Furthermore, I'm sure a significant number of those who play primarily multiplayer have also played through the campaign. How does your scientific evaluation explain that cohort?

Making stuff up is bad, alright kids?

So? Bungie doesn't twist the story for their fans. They do, however, explain the added elments as best they can, in an unconfusing way

(Were you confused with any extra weapons, locations, races, an abilities introduced in Halo 2?)

I second that.

If Halo 3 is based on the books, I will probably stop playing the game mid-campaign.

Maybe I, and the others were harsh when we said people who haven't read the books should be 'left out' and I apologize for that.

However, I find it strange when people say that Bungie should twist their story that they have made readily available to the fans, because some fans have not read the books..

All i'm going to say is, Bungie does a great job at explaining things that need to be explained (Prophets, The Arbiter, etc.), so you will not get lost if new Spartans are included like it looks, if you look at it from Bungie (the creator's) Point of View.

Reading the books will help you out in the long run though, and make everything "flow" smoother.

Did anyone know that Bungie was going to include the Gauss 'hog, and Carbines, and Beam Rifles in the first Halo? I just saw an E3 Demo for it..pretty neat.

Damn snipers!!!

I have now read the books...

just thought of something

from GI mag
"last issue we told you about Bungie's forerunner project, and now we're gonna let you in on another game the developer has cooking-a project currently codenamed Orion. bungie is teaming with Ensemble studios for this Halo-themed FPS MMO on the 360, and the game is currently still in the planning phase. sp, details regarding Orion- like forerunner- could change."

this was before the trailer

this would be a better platform for all the book material if you ask me.....the games havent used the books story lines so far and i dont think that will change, but orion could be like a new start and open up all sorts of new characters......

The games and the books use the same story line..I don't think Orion will intro nw characters I think it will be purely multiplayer..But having prequals (Reach, First Strike, Coral, and maybe a Halo remake) would be nice someday..

Check out the Gauss Hog, and all it's Halo CE goodness here : Linky

Man, you guys are seriously wrong, you seem fit to dictact what Bungie should do!

Shishka is right!!

They started making GAMES before the books!!! They wouldnt just go " lets mix the two together and make a game that not everyone will enjoy"

God damn it, I know what your respons will be, "they aren't making it to their fans, theyre making it for the HARDCORE fans, who have read the books" or something like that.

Well, youre wrong, I KNOW what they say, "this is MASTER CHIEFS STORY. HE is going to finish the fight, ALONE."

They may have not said it word from word, but they imply it more than they imply the other Spartans.

I agree with somewhat, but i wonder who agrees with what i have to say. I think that bungie should conclude what has happened thus far in the videogames, in halo 3. I also think that whatever subplots that have happened with the books and graphic novel should be resolved with a fourth and final book. that way we can both get finality and not ruin either the game or books. just a note; i have read all the books so i do know what is contained in them.

I may have a childish hobby, video games, but I am really not into childish literature, books about video games. The books should be a supplement, not a requirement.

Actually, the books are very well written, very detailed and couldn't be any further away from being "childish literature". It's closer to mature than anything else. Including some of the storylines(the other surviving Spartans, Dr. Halsey and Ackerson) from the books can only deepen and improve the game's storyline. For those who didn't read the books a quick explanation in the game would be all it would take.

Well, the timeline of things to define the story came like this:

Halo Bible
Halo Combat Evolved (Game)
Halo Fall of Reach (Novel)
Halo The Flood (Novel)
Halo First Strike (Novel)
Halo 2 (Game)
The Art of Halo (Book)
Halo Graphic Novel (Illustrated Novel, coming out tomorrow)
Halo Ghosts of Corah (Novel, coming out this year)
Halo 3 (Game)

The Fall of Reach was released before Halo Combat Evolved was...so, back when the first game came out, Bungie (and people who rea the books) had it in mind that there were other Spartans out there.

Expect other Spartans to show up in Halo 3 some way or the other (hopefully not playable, or with you too often) and also be prepared for Bungie to explain it wondefully well, in beautifully put-together cinematics ;-)

You have it all wrong!!

The books ARE a supplement! not a requirement!!
You guys just want the game the way YOU want it. I dont know how to explain it, would Bungie really go to the lengths to have a LONG cutscene to describe the other Spartans? They will stay probably to just what the games have said methinks.

And about the books writing, it wasn't very much literature, as it was a fact book, I didn't see anything really worth it being called "literature"

Literature is INTELLIGENT writing, I'm not saying he didn't screw up, well, actually yea, I'm saying he screwed up, he turned the world of Halo into a factual type book! He made it look like this was just a timeline, this is what you missed, everyone should read the book.

I dont think Bungie would just say, we like our book so much, we're going to screw it up for people who haven't read it, just so they buy it and read it. -blam!- YOU PUBLIC!!!

The game is seperate from the books. You can't have no involvement with the books whatsoever and then suddenly jam in random characters that were never mentioned before and other random crud. It doesn't work.
Haha. Dude..things that were first mentioned (though not invented) from the books, were major parts of Halo 2..

The Prophet of Truth
Tartarus
The Arbiter
Lord Hood
Fleet Admiral Harper

The Hierarchs
The Prophets
The Brutes

Brute Shot
Battle Rifle
SMG
Magnum

Reach
Orbital MAC Stations
MAC Cannons on Ships
Glassing (Setting Fire to) Planets

Dual Wielding

The Gel Layer in MJOLNIR Armor
Archer Missile Pods

Did any of those things confuse you in Halo 2?

I agree 100%. The books are awesome and those who haven't read are at a loss. I would love to see the game follow the books more closely. I want to see the remaining Spartans. Especially the mad sniper Kelly.

This poster must be retarded. Complain that you can't spend time reading books because of 1)my life and family. Wow, better spend that time playing video games. And someone tell me where they have to spend 60-70 on some books. I bought mine brand new at Gamestop for 20. And you can probably get them used for less now. Retard!

I'm not at a loss. I've just read better books, that's all.

Here is my standpoint on things: let's consider three types of entertainment here--video games, books, and movies. Okay? Now...the Halo franchise began as a video game series. Now, since it started off as a game series, I personally think that any other form of entertainment with the word "Halo" in its title (like the books) is deemed an add-on that is not necessary for the main story. That being said, I think the games should be able to stand alone to deliver a good story.
