if MC dies, I would like an ending where he dies and afer all is said and done they hold a military funeral with all of the surviving important people in the series mounring his death. then afterwards it would cut to a computer terminal, marathon style. then it would proceed down a list of spartan names, all MIA. as it gets to john 117, it changes the status to MIA.
or if we're unsure if he died or not. i feel that this would be a very good ending. it would be very sad, and it would sort of give you the sense of, "he's not really dead, even though he really is".
if that made any sense. I hope that the either the arbiter or master chief dies. honestly i can totally see the arbiter dying to prevent the activation of the ark, because he doesnt have a whole lot to live for, and his entire life was pretty much all a lie. the chief, however, i can also see dying because he has to defend humanity.
a very good ending would be one where chief is in the ark and the situation is desperate. the entire scene makes you feel as though master chief is GOING to have to stay to prevent the ark from activating. then the arbiter approaches from behind, and tells MC to leave (the ark may explode if it does not activate, or the method of prevention of activation is explosive.) and MC leaves, after a very emotional moment. the arbiter essentially trades his life for master chief's life. this makes it so that you can truly connect to the arbiter, and it will make him seem very human.
or it could just end with chief activating the ark. i honesttly only want to see this ending if all of humanity is destroyed, except for the chief and maybe a few people like johnson/miranda. then, after chief activates the ark, it shows empty hallways with decaying flood. then, ir slowly draws up to a computer trminal or something, and then cortana pops up on a hlogram and says something dramatic. like "THIS is the way the world ends". then, the ending would give you a sense of loss, but also it would leave a bit of mystery behind.
basically, there are numerous ways halo 3 could end, and I'm sure bungie will choose the right one.
