Oh but it does. I just posted a theory on the Halo 3 forum here. You see, by comparing MC to Jesus, and looking at the life of Jesus, we can get a glimpse of what's going to happen. Jesus sacrifiiced Himself to abolish sin. The flood is a great comparison to sin, and therefore we know that He will defeat the flood. It also speaks of a New Covenant. Halo 2 brilliantly set up the foundation for establishing a New Covenant between Humans and Elites, Grunts, etc. So you see, these connections give insight into what it all means and illustrates connections not stated in the storyline.

I'm not going to say that chief isn't going to die...
But consider this:

Our Hero, in his early career on Earth was in Cairo briefly. The Covenant was a big problem and that's what brought him to our planet.
He left Earth unexpectedly, and in chasing Regret went "feet first into Hell". He finished his goal of destroying Regret, but the consequence of which brought him to the grave.

The grave wouldn't hold him.

He ascended the heights to the holiest city of The Covenant in his pursuit of Truth.
This is his second coming to Earth.

How much of what I said isn't a fact?

Wow...stunning Ice, stunning as always. It would definitely give a viable answer to the begging of sacrifice for the sake of allegory. No doubt the Bungie guys were/are torn as to the fate of our beloved Chief. Either way though, I think that the New Covenant thing will come to pass, and letting the Chief live would provide a better way to do that. Especially considering the Transfiguration Old Testament Characters/Old Covenant/Arbiter and the Jesus/New Covenant/Chief. Ah, what an awesome picture!

I think this gets blown way out of proportion. Ever think there might be references to other historical peoples and texts? Not trying to rain on your parade, its a good notion, but look at all the other parallels as well. The MJOLNIR-Norse gods, Spartans-Greek Culture, etc. I just don't see the bible in Halo. Maybe you do, but it would ruin it for me.

It's been stated before.
We've known that MJOLNIR passes reference to Thor ever since halo 1 came out.
We've also known that spartans are Grecian.

We allegorist have never said that the Bible is the only inspiriration. We're merely fleshing it out thoroughly. Since when has that come with an obligation to be all inclusive with the other references that have already been covered.

A lot of the Biblical perspectives right now in the forum haven't been explored before...
Save for the posts about Noah. Those are way out of proportion.

I understand, but to me it just opens the door to too many that and I quote "Halo is based on the Bible" references. I can't wait til I see thread pointing out all the Jewish and Islamic and Taoist references in Halo. How about Seinfeld and Smurf references in Halo. Now that would be interesting.

Uh... Jewish and Islamic references have been made.
Hindu as well.
Don't know about Taoist.

Ever since Marathon came out, you mean.

How about a thread just about every historical culture referenced, not just the specifics on one single view. Alright I'm gone.

It's not that we don't acknowledge those references as well. We are simply interested in these parallels and ideas at this time. Some time from now, I plan to finish my look at the impact the Roland mythos has had on not only Marathon, but Halo. But for now, I'm putting my focus on this.

I like that. Plus, notice that Gravemind says "this is not your grave". Gravemind himself doesn't have to represent the Grave (or Death) if he is making reference to a place himself.

Well, Jesus was buried in a rich man's grave, the grave of Joseph of Arimathea. That's what I attribute that quote to.
[edit]
Tomb, rather. Joseph (of A.) wasn't dead yet. It was sort of a reservation.

I think that this resonates with anyone that cares about researching an artistic work like Halo. It would be very close-minded to think that the Bible is the only source of inspiration in this game. It'd be silly to say that Metallica's only influence is Aerosmith. Influence comes from a mulitude of places. I think it's fascinating to look into every facet of the Battle of Thermopylae and all of the battles surrounding it to see where that influence can be seen in Halo. So it's not all about the Bible for most of us, that just happens to be our current interest.

Haha, isn't it ridiculous that Bible-Halo theorists have to say something like this in EVERY BIble thread. Personally, I say in the future, just ignore the people that flame or want to be close-minded- ultimately, it ends up deviating from the original discussion, and turns into an argument about the Bible and Halo, rather than about whether or not the theory posted has merit.

Amen :)

And I think we always argue in every different thread because the issue always offends someone. I'm not sure why it does, but you'll always have those that are stuck on their issue. Not jut religion either. It happens all the time when discussing Halo. The conversation normally goes something like this:

Original Poster: I think that the covenant side needs a decent answer to the rocket launcher that is more accurate than the Brute Shot.

Commenter: Yes, something along the lines of a more balanced fuel rod.

Commenter 2: Quite.

Commenter 3: BUNG E BETER BRNG BAK TEH P1$70LzoRz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111oneoneone
