I would like to see something like either the NICW gun or the Nano GL or else the heavy machine gun from Red Faction 2 for Xbox.

Or the Farsight XR-20 gun from Perfect Dark for N64

If I were to design an INSANE gun, I would probably use halogen laser optics (wait till Chem 30 kids), laser beam type of weapon thing. And of course all of the usual refinements: laser sight, night/thermal/electromagnetic/motiondetection vision scope, a la splinter cell: PT, and of course room for thirty triple A batteries (instead of clips of bullets, obviously). Also some kind of GPS navigation thing, Heat tracking for organic meatbags and electromagnetic tracking for robots, cyborgs, and other Master Chiefs, bla bla bla. I could go on and on, but I'm getting tired of typing.

Some techie problems with some of the before mentioned physics...

One slight problem with Nano-weaponry is that it would be almost useless against personal shielding like the Spartans and Elites use. Just like the infection forms bursting against your shield, the little suckers would short out before they had a chance to work their magic. On unshielded targets though... *whistles* now... that's lethal.

A Halogen Laser unfortunately would pale in comparison to the power of plasma propelled in a magnetic envelope. Laser Beams vaporize the surface of the target and that vapor inhibits the beam from doing further damage. It has no penetration. That is the main reason why it hasn't found any success on the battlefield.

Sure whatever. However the Nano GL and the alt. fire on the NICW are quite good against foes shielded and unshielded considering they are GRENADE LAUNCHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm going to throw in a little more than my two cents. . . this time you guys get 4 cents. Ahh, carnage.

Section-III experimental alternative weapon No. N14 Mk II "MindSeeker"- The mindseeker was the pet project of Colonel James Ackerson whom hired neurologist Eugene Tokagawa to spearhead development of 'mind-affecting' weapons in 2548. The mindseeker is in very short supply on remaining human colonies due to destruction of Reach where the majority of prototypes were held. The mindseeker is a unique weapon in that rather than relying on the aim of the soldier, the weapon is self-guided. Projectiles are small probes with a tiny fuel cell, propulsion system, guidance system, needle and battery. The weapon is equipped with detection equipment located underneath the barrel. This mechanism detects brainwaves within a 35M radius and relays that information to a targeting mechanism located just behind the barrel and probes. Probes are fired using compressed air for initial propulsion as well as a small fuel cell within the probe itself which can propel the probe up to 50M. The self-propelled probe is remotely fed target information into a nano-processing unit within the probe.
Once the probe guides itself to the source of brainwaves, a small, hooked tripod on the front of the projectile latches onto a victums skull and pulls the main mass of the probe foward. Contact with the base of the tripod triggers the release of a needle within the main mass of the probe which is forced out by compressed air. The force and shape of the needle gives it the capability of piercing the majority of known armors. Upon entry into the brain, the needle conducts a powerful series of electric pulses which disrupts neural activity and eventually causes death. Test subject survival of the mindseeker has so far been 0%.
Targets must have significant neural activity in order to be tracked by the mindseeker. Some animals may go undetected or require longer time to be 'locked on.' Unconcious targets are rarely targeted by the mindseeker.

Notes Chief Petty Officer Ryan Burks UNSC Marine Corps// Jesus Christ, this is a scary gun. I've never seen it used on a human, and I never want to. The convulsions this thing sends animals into is almost enough to give a man nightmares, and I don't even want to get into some of the things that have happened during the first few seconds of this weapons effects. The projectile is not quite as fast as our Spnkr rockets, but its maneuverability is just plain unreal. I don't know if I would or wouldn't want to use this gun in the field

PRIMARY ROLE: Medium range alternative weapon
SECONDARY ROLE: N/A
AVAILABILITY: Rare; prototypes only available to test personnel
SCOPE: No
MAGAZINE CAPACITY: 4 probes
RATE OF FIRE: Single shot; 1 round requires .5-3 second lock-on time
MELEE RATING: Low; the awkward design makes melee an unwise use of the Mindseeker.

and for round 2
Section-III Alternative weapon- A7 "Shrieker"- The "shrieker" is another alternative weapon designed in Section III under the supervision of Colonel Ackerson. Ackerson, looking for a different way to approach combat, quite possibly to win prestige, invested in 'sonic' weaponry in 2550 due to setbacks in funding for his neural-weapons. The shrieker was built to be a much more powerful version of non-lethal sonic weapons used by law enforcement. The shrieker is a highly directional sound weapon that implements the sound of a baby shrieking, in reverse at (adjustable) levels starting at the equivalent of a roaring jet engine. The weapon can be set to multiple levels of 'damage' to accomodate the situation of the soldier. The lowest setting is non-lethal and highly disorienting. The piercing sound renders a victim almost powerless, and, depending on the subject, tests have resulted in fleeing, unconciousness and even vomiting. The shrieker can also be set to a much more lethal setting. On medium, the sound waves destroy the ear drums and cochlea. The victims experience deafness in 80% of cases and 65% have resulted in irreparable damage to balance and equilibrium. Upon exposure, victims will ideally lose all balance and hearing abilities. In most cases targets were rendered unconcious for several hours, and all cases resulted in the disabling of the target. On the highest setting, severe damage to internal organs is garunteed. Vibration is so severe that tissues, bones and organs are ruptured upon exposure; directed sound at the cranium has been permanently disabling in 100% of cases and fatal in 85% of cases. Most useful, is the fact that the shrieker can circumvent armor plating and cause heavy trauma to the soldier beneath. While some countermeasures have been developed against directed sonics, necessary equipment is impractical and still subjects the victim to minor to moderate internal damage through the shrieker. Due to the expensive nature of the shrieker and a UNSC contract with the Argus, the company whom manufactures the MA5B rifle and other UNSC infantry weaponry, it never gained popular use by the marine core. Some local law enforcement agencies, militant factions and various individuals favor these weapons well over traditional weaponry.

Notes // Field Commander Zheng Zhu -UNSC MarineCorps\\: Every time I have used the shrieker I have found its performance outstanding. Not only is it useful for riot suppression, but also a lethal and viable alternative to the assault rifle. Without tracers or sound, except for directly in front of the gun of course, the shrieker is the most valuable stealth weapon I have ever encountered. I sincerely hope the top UNSC officials give more consideration to using the A7.

PRIMARY ROLE: Non-lethal disorientation of a target
SECONDARY ROLE: Lethal alternative to conventional weapons
AVAILABILITY: Moderate
SCOPE: 2-6x zoom
MAGAZINE CAPACITY: Single battery; appx. 3min of continuous sound
RATE OF FIRE: Continuous fire
MELEE RATING: Rifle-like shape and moderate-durability make the shrieker useful in melee combat.

first off, its actualy three.

second, here is my weapon. a rock. just stay with me for a second here. take a rock the size of your fist. ok, now take you, throwing that rock at someone's head. pain right? now take a SPARTAN hucking that bad boy over in the general direction of a grunt's temple. um... bye grunty! you should have them as ort of a "third grenade" as in you can cycle into it and use it on your grenade menu thingy.

Hey potato, here's an idea. . . a fist. . ok, now take you, punching someone's head. pain right? now take a SPARTAN drilling a grunt in the temple. um... bye grunty!

Wait a sec. . . guns are better because they shoot faster, further and more accurately than rocks or fists. . . hmm. . . maybe guns are the ultimate weapons!

I like your work Scipio. The first one is lovely, imaginative and seems a little too impractical... and it IS! I love the way you had Ackerson give up on the project to clearly illustrate that point and how it smoothly transitions into the next one.

You must be an Author of some sort and one who has an interest in sciences and tech. Your Shrieker almost perfectly follows the lines of an Ultra Low Frequency weapon which has been examined by the US governement in the past and has almost exactly the same effects.

Unfortunately the side effects make it impossible to use for riot control. Weird things happen to the body when exposed to the ULF sounds and sometimes they're fatal. Admittedly it's a low percentage but any percentage fatality is too high for typical riot control.

Thanks for the kudos Draerden. The Mindseeker is mostly what would be cool instead of what would work, but you can't help but feel warm and fuzzy when you think of sending an elite into wild convulsions by screwing up his brain.

I'm not much of an author (or at least the grade on my last term paper would say differently), but I am interested in new tech. The stuff they are coming out with is just. . . mindblowing.

The shrieker I more or less based off of the real sonic-guns that are being experimented with. I guessed at some of the effects and capabilities though. Nothing seemed too illogical. ANyway, thanks for correcting me on riot control, guess you learn something new every day. Even on a halo forum.

Just like in True Crime have 2 pistols getting upgraded and through out the game your gun increases with extended barrel then shotgun on bottom then a rocket launcher on the side and then a flamethrower on the other side and then a mounted machine gun and then a auto create tank trigger that can upgraded to an invulnerable tank that flys all on 2 pistols hell ya

Physics? PHYSICS?! NANOT-- What the $hit?!

Sorry for my breaking out like that, but I was under the impression that Halogen laser optics was in fact a Chemistry study, especially seeing as how I took the damn course last year. Also, If you thought that by HALOgen I was referring to Halo, then you sir are horribly mistaken. Halogen's are just the family name for group 17 on the Periodic table. But I'm sure you already knew that, seeing as how you like to look smart by saying stuff when you have no Idea what the hell you're talking about.

Muhahahahahahahahahahaha---Bahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Sorry 'bout that Draerden, but I just couldn't help myself, it was the perfect opportunity. You would have done the same If you were in my shoes I'm sure. You see chemists have actually harnessed the ability to use lasers to burn things. Unfortunately, the technology to burn right through things is just beyond reach. But given time, Halogen laser optics will prove to be the most lethal form of weaponry. But I imagine it will be obsolete by the year 3013

One other thing, I think in one of my earlier posts I said that Halogen laser optics was a type of laser beam weapon. Well I'm correcting myself now, I meant to write "and a laser beam type of weapon thing", not "Halogen laser optics, a laser beam type of thing". Sorry if you misunderstood me Draerden. My Chemistry is much better than my English.

Some weapon ideas: (also posted in another topic)

1st is stun gun: stun gun draws energy from your shields and stuns opponent briefly if his shields are down (now he's melee-ready), otherwise it only lowers his shields. Gun has "unlimited" ammo as long as you have shield power to draw from. Reload is the time it takes for your shields to recharge.

2nd (or 2nd effect of stun gun) is slowing down/stopping vehicles with continuous fire/hits, perfect for grenade attachment.
3rd is EMP grenade that blows out shields in a certain blast radius (larger radius than regular grenade, or what's the point? Just use a regular grenade instead...); EMP grenade could also shut down vehicles.

Draedaren, do you find my ideas scientifically acceptable or not? I'm in my sophomore year in high school, so I don't exactly have the strong base in chemistry that you seem to have, but I think I have come up with some decent weapons... Oh, and I like your grapple beam or whatever it was called, but I think it should be a one handed weapon and the stock needs to go (at least on the Chief's variant - he doesn't need that stuff).

Reach Heavy Industries "Grizzly" Chainsaw - a huge chainsaw developed as a tool for cutting down the gigantic coniferous trees on Sigma Octanus III. It has an adjustable cutting speed and a durable but lightweight titanium-composite construction. This weapon runs on a hydrogen fuel cell that with a life considered indefinite by UNSCMC standards. The most recent version of this tool has a nearly indestructible hard-plastic chain that continually self-sharpens using nanoscale robots.

Notes //SPARTAN:043 William -- UNSC Navy\\: I had the chance to use one of these during an operation long ago to fell some trees and set up a barricade. Once we had fallen back inside the structure, the Grizzly was highly effective against the Covenant, who were all bunched up as they came through the door. My armor needed to go through a car wash after that encounter. Based on John's reports on the Flood, they seem particularly vulnerable to such an unstoppable close-quarters weapon as this. Of course, it is useless in open spaces where the enemy can shoot you while running away.

PRIMARY ROLE: Close-quarters combat weapon
SECONDARY ROLE: Cutting utility
AVAILABILITY: No longer in production, but many still exist; high
SCOPE: No
MAGAZINE CAPACITY: 1 hydrogen fuel cell; indefinite life
RATE OF FIRE: N/A
MELEE RATING: Most effective melee weapon made by humanity

I had to suggest this! It wouldn't kill in one hit like the plasma sword, but if you let someone keep it on you for a fraction of a second, you're dead. This weapon would scare the -blam!- out of your enemies if you used it in conjuction with the sprint mode.

High caliber magnum pistol.
Clip Capacity: 20
Round size: 3in or the size of your thumb
One of these rounds carefully aimed could knock a MOFO off his ass.
Maby three would knock a comander elite to his grave.
Rounds would be high explosive tiped.

A rock would be fun... imagine beating Legendary with nothing but a stick and a few rocks. Now that's hard core.

So I don't see where anyone has come up with the best weapon yet - Halo itself. I'd like a handheld version that I can keep in my pocket. When fired, it will obliterate everything within a few hundred light years. Game over.

Some very cool and creative ideas here guys. Nice thread. =)

(semi-offtopic follow up content:)
Best all-time weapons outside of Halo:
- Shrink Ray and Freeze Ray in Duke Nukem
- The Cerebral Bore from Turok (stupid, but amusing)
- That Shark gun from the recently released Hidden and Dangerous 2 (I think that was the game - basically opens a rift in the ground and a freakin shark comes up and eats the enemy)
- The Sheepinator from Ratchet and Clank
- Forget the game... but it was basically a holo emitter like in Total Recall. You can create a holographic decoy of yourself. Very cool.
- The "driveable" Nuke in Unreal Tournament (fire it and then steer it around the map and detonate when you're ready)
- The classic BFG from Doom
- Sniper rifle from Splinter Cell 2 (zooming, holding your breath, the HUD.. very cool)

Ahh good times...

Basically, what I hope the pistol will be able to do...

Category-1M/S "Super Cat" Pistol - a magnum pistol firing hi-velocity armor-piercing rounds. It has an integral smartlink-ready 1.5x power zoom digital scope and features advanced recoil compensation systems. It is also very accurate, but is not as powerful as the M6D pistol. The Special version of the Cat-1M also has a mechanism that coats the bullet with a small population of nanoscale robots that emit a distinct form of radiation, allowing the target to be precisely located via the magnum slugs inside it. All tagged targets will permanently show up on the HUD until they die or the projectile is removed from thier body (which is impossible without the help of a medkit).

Notes //Gunnery Sergeant Stoner, Michael -- UNSC Marine Corps.\\: Used the nanite applicator attachment on some Elites who thought they were sneaky... when they showed up again during the same op, we saw them through the darkness. Was like shooting fish in a barrel. My only complaint about the Cat was that its stopping power didn't have the extra spice of HE rounds that the M6D delivered. It was still just as accurate, and the lack of significant recoil definitely makes up for it - recommend immediate priorty upgrade on the supply lines.

PRIMARY ROLE: Sidearm
SECONDARY ROLE: Tactical intelligence device
AVAILABILITY: Has just begun production; medium
SCOPE: 1.5x power zoom digital
MAGAZINE CAPACITY: 15 round detachable box magazine
RATE OF FIRE: Semi-automatic, fully automatic; 1.8 rounds per second
MELEE RATING: Heavy, durable construction and small size give this weapon low damage but very fast melee attacks (Using UNSCMC hand-to-hand technique)

Scipio... you have re-created the Cerebral Bore from Turok: Dinosaur Hunter with your mindseeker. Its a good idea nonetheless... if you came up with it yourself.

My idea for a weapon isnt a gun... its the ability to take your gun and throw it after it has run out of ammo. Imagine using your last rounds on an elite... chucking the gun and beaning him in the head... then running up as hes stunned and unleashing a combo of fists on him. Thats what im talking about.

I seem to remember there being the ability to drop all weapons and sprint in Halo2 a while back. I dunno if its still in the game or not, but if you were able to hold no guns... that would make certain situations pretty interesting. Fistfights... =)
