Subject: Why is Spartan 117 called a "reclaimer" by 343 Guilty Spark?

What is it that the Master Chief is reclaiming? In Halo: Combat Evolved, we all remember how 343 was relieved at 117s appearance due to his being human, but what he asked of John was the destruction of all sentient life, not the reclamation of anything. Surely, the allowance of the Flood to reign unopposed throughout the galaxy is not why 343 referred to the Chief as such. Could Halo 3 consist of Spartan 117 fulfilling his duty as reclaimer; if so, then what would he be reclaiming? Is there a hidden alternative to wiping out the Flood other than that of the Halos? Maybe the Forerunners left the Ark as a means of protection for the next sentient life? Maybe that's what the Ark is - a gift. Possibly, maybe; who knows? If I made you anticipate more intensely, even for a second, the final cutscene in Halo 3, then I've done what I came here to do. Think.

Speculation, speculation, speculation...

I think it simply means Chief was "reclaiming" the job of wiping out flood food (sentient life) that originally was the Forerunners job. And since Chief looks enough like a Forerunner, 343 accepts him as suitable enough for the task.

it's funny how much of an allegory the entire halo story is. in regards to the ark, just think of Noah. Because of a giant "FLOOD" , the Forerunners build a ship and send it off into space to find a suitable planet with liquid water to sustain life. If the forerunners were as advanced as the story line would have it, all they would need were one "innocent spark" of life, a single strand of dna, or a single-celled host organism to completely repopulate the earth with all walks of life, from plants, to fish, to animals. activating the halos killed all sentient life in the galaxy, and the ark was life's salvation. booyah.

I can't believe I never tied the "Flood" with the "Ark" - interesting point.

Actually, it doesnt kill all life, it only kills off all life with sufficient biomass to sustian the flood, which means most small animals, insects, and bacteria would survive the halo's.

In the books, 343 GS calls another human a Reclaimer when MC finds him in the Library in The Flood. So MC isnt the only "Reclaimer", he is just a much more capable one.

To play or not to play....

The Monitors refer to all Humans as reclaimers. A reclaimer is just a role or a title. Miranda Keyes, St Johnson and MC were all viewed as reclaimers by the monitors.

Oh and as for the rings killing all sentiant life with sufficient biomass to support the flood. Surely the Earth would not be the ONLY place where smaller life forms survived. Hence the miriad of alien life in the Universe.

yeah there's nothing special about, it's just because he is human, the humans in general are called reclaimers by the monitors.

i've heard of a theory where somebody thought/thinks that the masterchief may go back in time with 343 guilty spark to activate the rings.

well that is possible,

in First strike, there was a time anomaly when they jumped to slipspace inside threshold, so if that was deliberatly magnified.

I just think the whole thing could be solved by jumpping earth into slipspace, untill after the rings have fired. technically earth would be in an alternate dimension and free from the effects of the ring.

is also the only way i can see the rings to be fired and humanity not be wiped out. maybe thats how the forerunners did it to!?

u cant put a planet in slipspace cos earth is just the right amout away from the sun.
if it moves into slipspace it will either burn evr1 to death or freeze every1 2 death

you can move into slipspace, and not actually move. especially if that weird crystal that dr halsey found was on earth.

See, now that is a point I'm confused on. I get what is or isn't able to be infected, but how can the halo tell the difference? Do little elves run just infront of the halo energy wave and point out what it can and can't touch? Halo is a weapon. I should kill everything that comes in contanct with what ever it is that it fires, regarless of size or biomass. It takes more enery to kill a human that it does a bacteria so wtf?

He is a reclaimer because the oracle thing thinks he is there to reclaim the index and activate halo.
