There's really not much inherently unbalanced with DWing. Bungie just did a terrible job in balancing it, especially in v1.0. In all fairness, they did try to fix some of the problems, however it's still off. If DW'ing is balanced well, it could be superior to single wielding, if only due to variety. I have a long article on how to do it, it was in my sig, but it no longer works.

No one is forcing you to dual wield. So if you don't like it, don't dual wield.

This is not entirely true. SMG starts practically force you to dual wield, since the majority of weapons laying around are dual-wieldable.

In my opinion, dual wielding was a bad idea. I relegated several weapons that were once cool and useful individually to uselessness. I placed an emphasis on close range combat. It took more away from the game than it brought to it.

Bungie has had lots of good ideas. Dual wielding just wasn't one of them.

i love dual weilding i want more like dual energy swords or shotguns or rockets even maybe. to say that it sucks means you arent good with them and it makes you mad so you try to take that powerful weapon that your enimies so handily hand you your ass with. dont hate on the dual weilding hate on the people who made you hate the dual weilding

dual wiedling is indeed a great feature. however, certain combos are never used in mp like needler + magnum and such. it would be nice to see dual wielding get some more fine tuning in halo 3, as long as dual wielding never overcomes the advantages of having grenades + 2 handed weapon.

however, i must say darkoompa, i completely disagree with what you want. dual wielding energy swords is completely stupid and redundant because you kill in one hit anyway unless you're point blank, in which case it doesnt really matter much anyway. dual wielding shotguns is stupid as well because first of all you dont really have a way of holding them and firing them and actually aiming at the same time. plus, you have no way of pumping the shotguns. you need two hands to operate a shotgun, so in order to dual wield shotguns you'd pretty much need 4 hands and a whole lot of coordination.

plus, dual wielding rockets would be so overpowered, it's not even funny.

Man invented language to satisfy his deep need to complain

I can just picture Mechalord reading his post to a group of Halo fans at GameStop in real life: loud, halting speech, his pimpled face turning red with anger at weak noobs, wildly gesticulating and banging the counter to drive his point home, stroking his tiny teen mustache like Halo Hitler. You need a girlfriend buddy.

Your not forced to dual wield at all, in fact sometimes I will even drop one of the guns in order to be able to use grenades if the situation calls for it.
Imagine respawning in warlock for example, everyone else pretty much has a br and/or shotty, dual wielding a plasma rifle and an smg for example at least give you a chance to compete.

I'm pretty certain that in Halo 3 there will be a " Tri-wielding " system: MC will be able to hold a gun in each hand plus one held in his teeth (he'll also have a retractable visor). This potential increse in firepower will be balanced by the reduced visibility the 3rd weapon causes.
