Okay, i've read some of Halo: First Strike, and I think that there are two species that could be the Forerunners.

1- Humans, obviously, theres alot of evidence to back this up, the Ark is on Earth, and 343 Guilty Spark drops alot of hints, but I won't go into that.

2- The Covenant Engineers, think about it, I think its quite possible, the Forerunners seem to be pretty inteligent as far as technology goes, and look at the Engineers, they seem to be pretty good at it. In addition, the Engineers don't really seem to be threats to humans, they just want to do their job.

Maybe, the Engineers were the Forerunners, and the Humans were their slaves (Considering there is also this idea flying around). The Engineers could have let the Humans, as a slave race to activate Halo, and maybe the humans had a secret home world (Earth) in which they survived.

Just my theory, feel free to add, shoot me in the head, etc...

no way

the engineers aren't even presented in the games thus far, and in the books, they don't have "feelings" as far as we can tell

Hmmm, interesting, I never thought of the Covenant Engineers as being the Forerunner, but if that's so, why are they almost the slaves of the Prophets, who seem to worship the Forerunner, it just doesn't make sense...

What about when the Cheif and his group of marines get inside the covenant flagship, and get inside the Bridge? We're told that they're cowwering in the corner, up until the cheif takes them to fix something.

I'm not that good at dramatic, maybe someone else could add to this?

And sorry for bumping this topic, I just wanted to reply. x_X

I am...whimsical today.

The engineers are filled with religious fevor, I don't think they are the Foerunners. Altho they could have no knowlage of their past?
