Bigger isn't always better.

I love the feeling that you get whenever you take the time to look at every mep individually.

The glass covered snowy structure that houses deadly secrets.
The first attempts at creating a housable environment on a different planet.
In the middle of a jungle.....

Every map has its own world.

I think it would be cool if Bungie released a map pack like they did for Halo 2, it would be called Big Team Map Pack or something, and it wuld have like 6 maps that would have Pelicans or something.

And there would be a gametype on Live that would only use one of the six maps. Yea, That would be cool.

I'm sure bungie will do another map pack, they made a pretty penny with them. As long as bungie take there time when creating a map not rushing them like they did with gemini, elongation, etc. There not much fun to play in. Lockout is such an awesome map simple in layout but huge in fun. Now the covie maps, since the covie are alien which mean that you can make up almost anything and be playable. Those map I think should be the best map, since there imagination could just run wild.

the pelican should be able to be selected on certain MASSIVE maps only!on some of those massive maps they would be default but on others they would have to be chosen
Anyone agree?

they should stick it in campain. theres no way it would work in multiplayer unless the maps were made for massive amounts of players. that reminds me of the 64 player maps in quake 2.....geeze, what great times.

Simple Solution to everything. Make the game support 32 players for Huge Team Battle. You will really think of a strategy to get the flag/ arm the bomb, etc. For example get like 3 guys in a Pelican, drop the extra 2 guys off (maybe a sniper and spotter) and the last guy cause a big ol' distraction while your team infiltrates the enemy base. It would be like a real war not some little battle noone know about like we have now. Im not saying that H2s MP sucks, its actually pretty fun when everyone plays fair.

I think that flying it in multiplayer would be a bit too powerful, unless Bungie decided to create excessively large matches on excessively large maps. Otherwise, I think flying one in Campaign would be best. I do think, however, that a pilotable Shadow should be introduced for multiplayer.

this is a post i put on some of the other ones about pelicans on halo 3, sorry if it just repeats things already said, i couldn't be bothered to read every one :p :

the pelican opens up loads of new multiplayer senarios, as well as campaign ideas (although it only sort of makes sense that the Master Chief would ever pilot one as there are marines specifically trained to fly them :P)
for example, in multiplayer, there could be an assault level where u have to infullrate an enemy base on a pier or island. one player could fly the pelican and drop his team-mates off on the island, sortof like a tactical drop. Of course, the pelican would have to be vunerable to rockets launchers, so it would be up to the pilot's flying skills to keep his crew out of danger.
if the pelican was added to halo 3, the machinegun on the nose of the pelican should definatly me usable by the pilot to lay down fire to clear to clear an LZ. the rear turret should also be usable, although probably be removed for multiplayer so as not to overbalance the pelican's power.
a campaign level which would be very cool, would be a kind of aerial car chase where the chief has to use the rear turret to take down banshees on the pelican's tail.

Hard to fly, maybe like the chopper in Battlefield 2 MC, plus hard to land so you can kill people standing near your landing point for lack of precision, no weapons, or maybe the turret and if you use the rockets they should do very little damage, take in consideration that the turret will only be worth sing when youre being followed by a banshee, cos its in the back, not useful to clear landing areas, and neither the rockets, because like in choppers when you point downwards you tend to advance, and yeah 5 targets would be nice, 4 for the jets, and 1 for the cockpit, 2 rockets for the cockpit and 1 for each jet, and it aint no coffin coz.... again, the opening is in the back, so the enemy snipers are in front of you, of course the driver HAS to be snipeable, but protected with the cockpit glass, like the warhog, when the glass is not broken, it cant be sniped unless you brak it first.

So if the driver is sniped, the pelican falls and kills everyone in the passenger seats, unless someone takes the controls

I really don't think anyone here who voted YES thinks these things through.. At all.

1) To incorporate the Pelican, it would require MUCH larger maps.
2) To incorporate MUCH larger maps, would require more players. (24+ players)
3) To incorporate more players would require more bandwidth (more lag), less visual detail, a complete overhaul in Halo gameplay as we know it, and less organized team warfare.
4) To incorporate said things would require Halo to suddenly become Battlefield. It wouldn't be Halo. It'd be some screwed over hybrid that wasn't very fun to play. Incorporating something into the game, as simple as the flyable pelican, would almost definatly ammount to sale losses on Microsoft's and Bungie's part.

If you all want to play that kind of game, just go play Battlefield. It's a great series. Please, this isn't even reasonable.

used to like sum-41alot lol, into rancid now ;)

i think people are making to big a deal about the controls of the pelican. however they are designed, such a big flying machine will never be easy to fly, but thats what would be so fun about it!
all its has to be is:
left thumb stick: forward, backwards, (possibly tilt left and right), click= ascend
right thumb stick: left, right, tilt up and down, click= descend

as for the pelican being destructable, i think that a rocket to each jet engine should cause the pelican to make a forced landing (imagin the pilot struggling to pull up and then the pelican ploying into the ground.) after that, one further rocket could destroy the pelican completely, this would give the passengers the time it takes for the rocketman to reload to get away from the grounded pelican.

that would make a cool bit of gameplay

when the pelican is in the air, it should be substancially more powerful, defending its passengers even against rockets, as long as they are too other parts of the craft apart from the jet engines. i'd say 6 rockets should take one down when its like this.

Yea the only thing that would break the glass is a rocket or two because its gotta be tough if it is suitable for flying through space( as the Pelicans sometimes have to ).

the maps in halo 3 will be so big you will need a pelican....

No pelican...why?...here's why...

1. The Game is a first person shooter at heart...with veichals thrown is for fun and quick intergrated action...the veichals that are in the game have been interghratedf so well and finely tuned so they fit the whole game's pace, feel and gameplay that brings the Halo universe fun and action and vitality...just stuffing a pelican in for you greedy people to fly around picking up troops and transporting troops would be crap...why...look below...

2. Master Cheif- Spartant 117 is a highly trained, ass-kicking, alien butt beating kick the Sh1t out of the enemy genetically and cybernetically enhanced super-soldier...why not let him do the ground fighting and the down and dirty stuff...bot fly freeking pelicans and letting lesser troops do the fighting??

3. The whole point of designing levels and maps is to provide twists and turns for players on the ground that are pretty big and all just to have a pelican to fly over it all??...what would be the point in designing a massive level just so you could fly a pelican around it?? From my oppinion that would suck bigtime i want a FP shooter meshing aliens to shreds...not flying a freeking transport aircraft around!!

4. The pelican itself....is in the game to provide you with allies and ground veichals without them having to just pop out of thin air...that's its function...thats what the craft is designed for...

Please just see the beauty behind halo that bungie has worked so hard for....the FP shooter experience and ripping dirt with hog's and blowing stuff up with tank shells...they've done a good job...stop asking for needless crap that will ruin the game...open your eyes....and grow some dicks...!

my idea is to use them on big maps in MP (i mean REALLY big). that way, ppl can fly from one base to the other in CTF etc. of course a rocket launcher could still take it down, but more then one shot (maybe 3 or 4).

I think they should because it would be so cool to be flying over and enemies base in coagulation, take a rocket and and belly-flop onto the top of the bases, stagger out while your shields are beeping for what seems like forever. Then run into the base, get the flag,,jump into a ghost while all your team are distracting the enemy and escape and score.
Phew!

That would be a cheap solution to getting the flag, arming the bomb, etc, because everyone will just board the pelican, and do what it takes to score.

Step 3 is flawed.

And knowing most snipers, you wouldnt get that far anyway. Everyone in the pelican would get shot by a good sniper, a randomer with a rocket launcher, or a banshee firing randomly into the sitting area.

The pelican is a flying coffin. Get over it, its a rubbish idea.

That's the reason why you would need to clear an LZ(landing Zone). OR, you can deliver troops to a safe area and let them join combat at will.
These vehicles would need to be accompanied by larger maps.

Pelican needs to be flyable!!! atleast in campagin mode or something. Since halo 3 is post to be houseing larger player maps and palyer fields and the fact the 360 can handel it very easyily why not pelicans more land vehicles more guns heck ya!!!

"Your destruction is the will of the gods...and we are their instrument."

It wouldn't work. It's too bulky and too manuverable, basically a flying Scropion tank. Be too cheap as well, how would you take it down? And how would you jack it? The 9-11 guys might be able to give you some pointers in that department. I don't think the levels would be large enough to be able to manuver it. I think if there were going to be a human flying vehicle, it would be a small mini-plane with a gatling gun and missile pods. And how would you be able to steel an opponent's flag covertly? By the time you get there, the other guys would have seen you and fully set up deffenses around their base. I guess the only perpose it would serve is a distraction.
