... the third incarnation was (in my opinion) the last chance for the people of The Flood to share pictures of themselves without all of the inane conversations.

I agree and support your decision wholeheartedly. I hate to sound like a parent, but until people start taking pride and showing a sense of responsibility, that is a main reason we "can't have anything nice around here".

Since it was the 3rd attempt, if there were people who wished it to survive, those people could have used PM's to people chatting (to let them know that it was not a chat thread) and PM's to ninjas (to let them know that the thread was being misused and abused), but I don't recall getting any PM's at all.

So, 3rd strike. It's out. If people want to post their pics, they can link to those pics in their sig, or link to a blog that has pictures.

These forums are provided by Bungie for the community to use and enjoy. We make them what they are. If they suck, it is we that made them suck. If they are fun, or welcoming, or friendly, it is us that makes it so.

If the members of this community find a portion of this site to be of value, then they should use the tools and systems available to them to protect and assist in keeping the forums running as desired.

But, Recon, the first 2 strikes..em...don't count. Maka deleted the first thread, it wasn't the Flood members fault. The second time the thread broke, recent posts wouldn't show up...so there was no use for that thread anymore.

And why didn't dmbfan just blacklist them?

Would blacklisting half of the Flood's population solve anything other than destroying the Flood itself?

You could argue that halfing the idiocy in The Flood would be a positive step but, like the original thread creator has said, this destroys the warm and fuzzy feeling of the place.

True. Stosh did that to the Flood once, he basically killed it.

But blacklisting will (hopefully) teach them something, and they might learn to obey next time.

Chairleg Productions presents: 'Console Wars' and 'Games as Art?' (also on Halo Waypoint).

I would personally be inclined to allow the mugshot thread to be re-made. However, i did notice the amount of spam and general discussion that went in there. Perhaps it might work if we had one thread for pictures (posting without posting a picture of themselves would earn a blacklist) and a thread for commenting. This could, however, be confusing and present the same problems as before.

You would never have to blacklist that many people.

No, not a literal amount of people amounting to half the floods' populous, but the people that would get blacklisted would likely be the most active, well known and prominent members of the flood.

The life of a forum is not its amount of members but how much each person contributes. That is the problem.

That was the third incarnation of that thread, and we have yet to have people follow rules in it. The first incarnation was "accidentally" deleted by Maka, the second incarnation became almost unusable because moderators had to delete all of the posts that were just conversations and the third incarnation was (in my opinion) the last chance for the people of The Flood to share pictures of themselves without all of the inane conversations. The people of The Flood failed, miserably.

Even though i never posted in that thread... i feel ashamed to be an avid flood poster.

Phrog pilots, reckless and free. We would strap into our birds, set the engines on fire, and leave these earthly bonds with a chorus of WHOP WHOP WHOP. Akin to beating your chest and howling in defiance at the rest of the world.

Actually, the second thread suffered from having so many off-topic posts deleted from it. Big threads that have a lot of posts deleted slowly succumb to that incorrect page numbering fiasco. So, the members did break the second thread by not sticking to the rules.

And why didn't dmbfan just blacklist them? It would have just been a repeat of what happened to the second thread. It's a vicious cycle.

I'm just getting tired of the people who go into a good thread and turn it into, well, a sedge pool of off-topic posts. I was planning on trying to do some big game database thread where people could go and write a short review of a game and then it would be put into a database (similar to dmbfan's Flood database) so people could easily access it, but with every thread becoming a haven for off-topic posts I know that it probably wouldn't work.

Oh well, I'll continue to post down there even if threads turn into gibberish.

Are we talking group or like just a thread going? Damnit, getting off topic..

I don't dare post a picture of my face, the sky would turn dark and lighting would rain.

Mugshot group is a darn good idea or make a msn group so e1 can at least have an album instead of just having a forum/thread full of links to imageshack and other such sites. I don't see the thread ever coming back since turned into a chat.

But at the same time, who cares what other people look like. If you really want to see someone then PM then for a picture....Even if it is stalkerish.
