Built in Texas where everything is bigger, the SKYHOG would be a large version of the modern day Tomahawk helicopter. Capable of holding a crew of 3, with one pilot and two gunners. It would be extremely sleek and manuverable, especially side to side, in order to dodge rocket fire and other enemy fire.

Weapons would include futuristic stinger missles for the pilot (each one does 1/2 the damage as an ordinary rockets), and two side mounted turrets capable of 160 of rotation side to side and approx the same up and down, so basically it can very well defend the side of the ship.

Enemies can lock onto either turret, gunner or the rotary blades... hitting turret the gunner and destroys the turret, but helicopter is fine.

Hitting the rotary point seperates the helicopter from the blades, causing the blades to fly off and become lethal if they hit anyone, and the helicopter will crash and kill the gunners and pilot if they don't jump out in time (defiently some sweet graphics and effects there).

Hitting the pilot with a rocket kills him and causes the helicopter to go into a tailspin, since no ones piloting anymore.

The manuverability of the Skyhog counters the lock on of the rockets.

Got any other ideas for this vehicle?

Sounds fine, but I think a jump-jet would be more appropriate, seeing as how it seems that helicopters have been replaced by VTOL jets in Halo.

true, but helicopters are the closst human equivalent to the hovering capabilities of the banshees. Yea there is the pelican bump gets, but integrating that into a helicopter? well, maybe if theres two, one on each side and the air intake is on the front of the mini-wings.

I like it. Very nicely thought through. It would make a great apology if Bungie doesn't add the Pelican for Halo 3. But even if they do, more power to it. Great escort for the Pelican!

It has to have vertical takeoff. Maybe instead of rotary blades it could have small jet turbines. With fire blazing out the back and everything.

'cause you could march your whole team over to someone's base.

Imagine, BTB CTF on Coagulation. The entire team quickly rushes for their respected weapons and piles into the Pelican. They begin their assault when they see below that the other team has rushed the rocket launcher and pops a shot at them. It nails a wing and the Pelican rocks violently in the air. One of the passengers falls out the back (don't worry, fall damage doesn't exist). The Pelican start to spin out of control. The pilot struggles to save the assault by bringing them close to the enemy base. While the Pelican goes into freefall and is about to make impact, the passengers all bail out the back and rain onto the enemy base while the pilot sacrificially goes down.

Now even if the run isn't successful you gotta admit that would be fun.
