this is interesting. This makes you think. It also made me think maybe each ring has one of the continents on it- 7 rings 7 continents.

Hmm... Maybe they are going to claim the forerunners are the things that showed the Egyptians all about the future. You know how people say 'Aliens' helped them with predicting the future with hyroglyphics(sp?). I can't remember exactly who it was that made those symbols irl.. so I'm saying egyptians.

Yo guys

something ive noticed for a while, but just decided to post this now

so anyway if you notice the cutscene "Helljumpers" youll see chiefs pod over what appears to be Africa:

Africa on Inst. 05

and for those who are skeptical, look at this actual map of Africa:

Here is an actual Map of Africa

I only wanna know one thing: Why make another Africa? Why mimic the structure of Earth right down to a T?

well we know the forerunner chose earth as the ark. Apparently they chose to mimic our continental structures as well. Why would they do this? Who knows.

leave it to icey to find something like this. wait, haven't you brought this up before, hmmmm?

Maybe earth was made by the forerunner too, maybe as a sort of "bomb shelter" for when they blew up the rings!!??

You've given me an idea here.
What if Earth is one of the Installations? Maybe the Forerunners eventually developed better technology to make it look like a planet. the ark could be the control room.

As much as that theory is possible I think the Earth was already there.

probably

but i used to be completely against the "forerunners made earth " theory but now im just........ considering it.........sort of. i still believe earth was there before the forerunner tho. prolly a planet they picked to inhabit while tryin to escape the flood

What you just said disprooves your theory of the forerunner putting another Africa on instulation 05. They had to have already know planet Earth to stick Africa on a Ring.

Sure. I agree. Im not sure how that disproves my "theory" ( i dont really have a theory btw, i was just pointing out there is Africa on 05)

It could be that the forerunners retreated to earth, built the rings to mimic it (right down to the continents) and left it at that

or

the forerunner made the halos and earth; putting the ark on earth

im not sure. i dont really have a theory on the subject. i was just making an observation

To me its obvious, all human-beings originated out of Africa, so its one of those full circle things.

ummm....humans came from mesopotamia, not africa. thats in the middle east, specifically between the euphrates and tigris rivers.

good find. this was one of the first things i noticed....ok after playing thro the campaign the second time i noticed it. but i didn't look at the rest of the land. as said before it very much resembles the mediteranean sea, and other parts of europe. in my opinion, bungie is too sneaky/detailistic to have "accidentally" made a africa shaped landmass on a halo. i also have no idea what to take from this, but i don't think that the forrunners made earth.
intro into loose theory: to me, it's probably that during the fight against the flood, the forrunners found earth as a suitable headquarters to put the Ark at, or as some one earlier said a "bomb shelter". if they found earth to be this perfect planet to have it be thier place for the Ark, then it makes sense for them to mimic continents. there's my 2 cents

  • 07.14.2006 9:23 AM PDT

Some people keep saying that it couldn't possibly be africa because the continents have changed so much, but I think you have got to take it into perspective. For humans 100,000 years is a long time, but for the earth which has been around for millions of years 100,000 years isn't a huge time frame. Yes there has been continental drift, but if you remember that humans supposedly populated the americas about 14,000 years ago by coming across an icebridge from asia to present day alaska and remember that there hasn't been that much continental drift since then I figure that 100,000 years ago all of the continents weren't all squished together. Of course islands have probably appeared and dissapeard and the coastline and shape may have changed, but overall I think that it would all look pretty similar today as it would a hundred years ago. Now I really dont know enough about any of this to state that I am right or anything like that. This is simply how I view it and due to the lack of knowledge I have concerning continental drift I could quite easily be wrong.

it has nothing to do with the bible. just look in your average high school history book. the first known civilizations were from a place called sumer. they were called the sumerians. they lived in a little known place called mesapotamia between two rivers in a valley. this is the modern day middle east. now when it comes to man itself, sure, maybe we crept out of our holes in africa, but we didnt start to make language and mathmatics till we dropped all that tribe crap and started working together in cities and mass congregations.

All true, but they still originated in africa and so it would sort of come full circle.

Here is a map how earth looked 100000 years ago:

http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/paleo/ctl/images/figure06_01.gi f

On this you can clearly see Earth is a lot different, but Africa still has about the same form. Good theory though, never noticed it. I can think of three reasons for it:

1. It's just a coincidence, they didn't mean to let it look like africa
2. They wanted to hint us at something
3. They wanted us to speculate about it

EDIT: but on this picture you see Europe and Asia aren't close to Africa, as is on installation 05...

Africa is not on installation 05, as pointed out by that thread

i didnt see that there was more to the picture than meets the eye

but whateva, i was just trying to make a thread that was different from all the "norm"

so go back to discussing your forerunners and extra spartans

but rest assured, ill find something interesting to talk about later
